Volleyball Drops Match Against Maryland 3-0

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The Xavier volleyball team fell to Maryland in the finale of the Maryland Invite Saturday night in straight sets (25-22, 25-22, 26-24). Sophomore Kelsey Dunaway and red-shirt sophomore Alex Smith each recorded eight kills for XU, while junior Amé White was able to knock in a career-high four service aces.
Dunaway's eight kills, a career high, was good for a .333 hitting percentage. She was also able to get under a career-best three digs. Senior Michelle Matia led the Musketeers in hitting percentage with .385 (6-1-13).
The Musketeers fall to 4-2 on the season while Maryland improves to 3-3. The Terrapins were led by Mary Cushman and Ashleigh Crutcher who combined for 21 kills, while Sarah Harper got under a match-high 20 digs.
XU will be back in tournament play next week as it travels down to Bowling Green, Ky., to take part in the Western Kentucky Tournament.
