Cash Leads Musketeers to Fifth Place Start

CHANDLER, Ariz.- Christine Cash shot a two-under-par 70 to begin the 2012 Wyoming Cowgirl Classic for the Xavier women’s golf team on Monday. Cash is fourth in the field and leads Xavier to a fifth place position after day one. The Musketeers shot a 298 (+10) as a team and are tied with Seattle.
Cash registered her second sub-par round of the year, and set a new career-low with her opening round 70. Senior Michelle Winkler is tied for ninth with a one-over-par 73 while sophomore Breanna Patz is one stroke behind with a 74 and is tied for 14th place. Kristin Tan fired an 81 (+9) and is sitting tied for 96th in the field of 126 competitors. Alexandra Lake shot an 84 (+12) and is tied for 114th.
Abby Smith and Ariel McNair each competed as individuals and both had strong first round scores. Both Smith and McNair shot a 77 (+5) and sit tied for 52nd place.
University of Iowa currently leads the field of 24 teams with a score of 289. Kristi Cardwell of Iowa and Brianna Espinoza of Colorado State are tied for first with a score of 68 (-4).
