Xavier Falls To Texas A&M In Straight-Sets

NEWARK, Del. - Sarah Brown recorded 11-kills for Xavier (5-4), but Texas A&M (6-1) beat the Musketeers (25-13, 25-15, 25-16) in the opening match of the University of Delaware Invitational on Friday morning.
Texas A&M opened the first set with four-straight points and posted a six-point run later in the set to upend Xavier, 25-13. Xavier trailed just 17-15 and held the serve in the second set, but A&M ran off eight-consecutive points to win the set, 25-15. The Musketeers grabbed an early 10-7 lead in the third set, only to surrender an 8-3 run to the Aggies and eventually lose the set, 25-16.
"Texas A&M played awfully well today," said Xavier head coach Mike Johnson. "We will continue to improve and we'll be better."
Aubree Smith notched 19 assists and seven digs in the match. Stephanie Vorherr matched Smith with seven digs.
Xavier looks to rebound in a 5 p.m. match against Columbia. The Lions entered the tournament with a 1-2 record and play Delaware in the second match of the morning.
