Backed With Nine Service Aces, Volleyball Beats Butler in Three

Musketeers improved their record to 8-7, 4-1 BIG EAST.
INDIANAPOLIS – In a Saturday matinee, Xavier volleyball recorded a season-high nine service aces to beat Butler in three sets (25-18, 25-19, 25-20) at Historic Hinkle Fieldhouse.
A balanced offense aided in the three set victory. Junior Abbey Bessler recorded a match-high 14 kills, while Laura Grossman recorded seven kills with a .545 hitting percentage. Makayla Agin and Sofia Peterson also put down six and five kills, respectively.
In the first two sets, Xavier obtained and remained in control of the match early with the largest lead in both sets being nine points. Set one had 11 kills, 13 kills and three service aces to help the Musketeers beat the Bulldogs, 25-18. Set two was similar in statistics with 14 kills, 10 digs and five blocks.
Set three opened with back-to-back Butler points and remained close with eight ties until the Musketeers were able to go on a 5-0 run beginning at 14-13 with a kill from Agin and capped off with a block from Lauren Frilling and Grossman.
Holding off a 3-0 Bulldog run and limiting them to 20 points, Agin ended the match with kill to win the set, 25-20. The team put up 12 kills, 20 digs and five service aces in set three.
McKena Estes had a match-high 16 assists and match-high three service aces on her stat line, while Samantha Foti and Meredith Klare recorded 10 digs apiece.
The win over Butler improved Xavier's BIG EAST record to 4-1 and it's overall recorded to 8-7.
The Musketeers are back in action against Villanova in Philadelphia, Pa. at 9 p.m. on Friday, October 9th.
