Day Two at Magnus Cup Complete

CLEVELAND, Ohio – After day two at the Cleveland State University Magnus Cup Invitational the Xavier women's swim team stands in third place, while the men's team is in second.
The Musketeer women opened the day by setting the fifth fastest time in school history in the 200 medley relay with Paxtyn Drew, Haley Dresner, Caroline Gaertner and Claire Brolsma finishing in 1:44.18.
In the 400 IM, Mackenna Rife took 10th with a time of 4:32.12. Maggie Kauffeld entered the top-10 time in schoo history with a time of 4:35.08, seventh in school history. Jenna Wilkes also entered the top 10 with a time of 4:36.98.
In the 100 fly, Gaertner took fifth with a time of 56.14, the second fastest time all-time and just 0.01 off Bethanie Griffin's school record. Annie Cummins took ninth with a time of 57.01, and set the fourth fastest time in school history in the preliminary rounds 56.69. Ashley Whiteley improved her sixth-best time in school history to 57.20 and Broslma moved up to 11th in Xavier records with a time of 58.16.
In the 200 free, Katie Kerr took second with a time of 1:51.77 after setting the second fastest time in school history in the prelims, touching the wall 1:51.66.
In the 100 breast, Dresner took fourth with a time of 1:05.03. Becca Titterton moved up to sixth all-time with a time of 1:06.47.
Gaertner set a new school record and finished third in the 100 back with a time of 55.36. Drew finished fifth with a time of 55.81. Laura Dicus moved up to ninth with a time of 57.82. Anne Locker's prelim time of 58.07 stands in the top 10 of Xavier records, and Annie Cummins' time of 58.67 stands at 16th in Xavier records.
The Xavier women closed the event by taking fourth in the 800 free relay with Kerr, Molly Kroeger, Gaertner and Drew finishing in 7:35.34, fourth fastest time all-time in Xavier records.
The Xavier women finished with 456 points, standing in third behind Akron and Duquesne out of 10 teams competing.
The men opened the day with a third place finish in the 200 medley relay, with Erik Biernat, Michael Pettinichi, Tony Miller and Rodrigo Suriano finishing in 1:32.39.
Nick Foster finished second in the 400 IM with a time of 4:06.58. Chase Baldwin followed him in with a time of 4:06.59 to take third and move up to 11th in XU records.
In the 100 fly, David Bunnell took sixth with a time of 50.97 after setting the eighth fastest time in school history, 50.60, during prelims. Biernat finished eighth with a time of 51.47 and Miller finished 10th with a time of 52.76 after moving up to 13th in school records with a prelim time of 51.52.
In the 200 free Enrique Hernandez took second with a time of 1:42.68, tying for 14th fastest in Xavier history. Alex Wolfred finished sixth with a time of 1:43.89.
In the 100 breast, Pettinichi took second and moved up to seventh all time with a time of 57.31. Matthew Dyer finished seventh with a time of 59.02 after setting the 11th fastest time in school history during prelims, 58.44. Owen Dougherty also moved into the Xavier records with a time of 59.86.
In the 100 back, Nathan Runyon took fifth with a time of 51.42, 10th fastest in school history. Suriano took sixth with a time of 51.53. Biernat finished seventh in 51.75 after tying for 11th fastest time in school history, 51.46, during prelims. Sam Johanns finished ninth with a time of 52.64, and moved up to 14th in school records with a prelim time of 52.08.
The men closed the event with Foster, Hernandez, Wolfred and Baldwin taking second in the 800 medley relay with a time of 6:52.50.
The Xavier men totaled 1,024 points through two days to stand in second place behind Cleveland State with nine swimming events remaining on Sunday.
Events resume tomorrow with preliminaries beginning at 9:00 a.m. and finals beginning at 3:00 p.m.
