Swimming Collects 13 First Place Finishes at Denison

CINCINNATI - The Musketeer swim program collected first place in 13 events as the men collected a win and the women fell at Denison on Saturday afternoon.
The Xavier men collected the top spot in nine events as the Musketeers topped the Denison men, 158-104.
Erik Biernat, Michael Pettinichi, Tony Miller and Luke Johanns collected a first place finish in the 200 medley relay to open the meet for the men, touching the all in a time of 1:35.23.
Among Xavier's top finishes, the Musketeers collected a pair in one event after Rodrigo Suriano and Nathan Runyon tied for the top spot in the 100 back, touching the wall in 52.77. The time mark's Runyon's top performance in the event as a Musketeer, moving him up the 15th in Xavier records.
Erik Biernat finished first in the 200 fly, finishing in a time of 1:57.38. Luke Johanns took the top spot in the 50 free, touching the wall in 21.02. Suriano collected his second win of the day in the 100 yard free, finishing in 46.53.
In the 200 back, Chase Baldwin and Runyon finished second and third respectively, setting the 18th and 19th fastest time in Xavier history after touching the wall in 1:55:06 and 1:55:66.
The Musketeers took the top two spots in the 200 breast, with Rob Van Kirk leading the way with a time of 2:11.28 and Eric Futscher taking second in 2:13.07.
David Bunnell grabbed another top finish for Xavier in the 100 fly, finishing in 51.93, the 15th fastest time in Xavier's record books.
Biernat's second top finish of the day came in the final individual event, finishing the 200 IM in 1:58.40 for first place.
The men closed the event by taking the top spot in the 400 free relay, with Suriano, Enrique Hernandez, Matt Nephew and Luke Johanns finishing in a time of 3:06.93.
The Xavier women finished with four first-place finishes as they fell, 157-105, to the Big Red.
The Musketeers opened the event with a second and third place finishes in the 200 medley relay, with Paxtyn Drew, Becca Titterton, Ashley Whiteley and Claire Brolsma leading the Musketeers in with a time of 1:48.41.
Katie Kerr opened the individual events by taking a second place finish in the 200 free with a time of 1:56.12.
Paxtyn Drew collected a win for the Xavier women in the 100 back, touching in a time of 57.91.
Haley Dresner and Becca Titterton finished second and third in the 100 breast, finishing with times of 1:06.98 and 1:08.78, respectively. Maggie Kauffeld and Annie Cummins also finished two-three in 200 fly, with Kauffeld's time of 2:11.17 upping Xavier best time that stands at 14th best in Xavier's records.
In the 200 back, Caroline Gaertner took the top spot and set the 12th fastest time in XU records, touching the wall in 2:07.75.
Xavier grabbed two of the top three spots in the 200 breast, with Hanna Martin and Mikaela Saugstad finishing in 2:29.06 and 2:32.61, respectively, to take second and third.
In the 500 yard free, Xavier took the top three spots, with Kerr taking first with a time of 5:08.64, and Dresner and Jenna Wilkes following her in with times of 5:15.67 and 5:16.65 to take second and third.
Cummins grabbed another top finish for the Xavier women, finishing the 100 fly in a time of 59.07 to take first.
The Xavier women closed the event with a second in the 400 free relay with Brolsma, Taylor Jach, Gaertner and Drew posting a time of 3:36.45.
