California Trip Ends at Beach Invitational
04.18.15 | Track and Field
NORWALK, Calif. - Xavier track and field ended its weekend trip to California at the Beach Invitational on Saturday evening. The Musketeers competed in two different meets over the weekend with a small number of middle/long distance runners.
"To maximize our time in California, we had some of the athletes that traveled double back at the Beach Invitational," said head coach Ryan Orner. "Today was a successful day for our athletes as they practiced what it's going to be like at the BIG EAST Championship to run against great competition two days in a row with little rest in between."
In the men's 800-meter run, Connor Buchholz posted a time of 1:54.22, while Corey Zielinski crossed the finish line in a time of 1:57.03.
"Connor Buchholz, coming off his school record performance in the 1,500-meter run last night, ran a personal best in the 800-meter," added Orner. "Corey Zielinski also had a strong performance as he posted a PR in the event."
In the men's 400-meter dash, Nolan Daniels posted a time of 49.79.
"Nolan Daniels got a bit of redemption today after being tripped and taken out of his 800-meter run yesterday," said Orner. "He ran a solid open 400, making his trip to California more worth while."
In the women's 800-meter run, Meghan Vogel posted a time of 2:17.53.
"Meghan Vogel also had a solid double coming off her 1,500-meter run late last night," added Orner. "She came back to run the 800 today and looked very strong, so I know she'll have more to give in her second event coming up at BIG EAST Championships."
Xavier returns to action on April 23-25 at the Penn Relays in Philadelphia, Pa.
