
Women's Golf Finishes Third at BIG EAST Championship

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- The 2015 BIG EAST Women's Golf championship entered its third and final round in a closely contested battle, with Xavier tied with Seton Hall in first place, and third place Georgetown trailing by a single stroke at the end of day two. After the final 18 holes, the Musketeers collected a third place finish, falling just seven strokes behind champion Seton Hall with a team score of 921 (+57) through 54 holes.
Seton Hall finished the day with a score of 304 for a total score of 914 (+50), one stroke better than second place Georgetown at 915. Georgetown's Jacquelyn Eleey took the top spot individually with a card of 223/73-76-74.
Hanna Lee collected a top five finish for the Musketeers, shooting a 77 on the final day to bring her total score to 228/76-75-77 (+12), tying for fourth place, the best finish of her Xavier career. Lee shot par on 38 holes in the tournament, matching Seton Hall's Erin McClure for most among all players.
Grace Howie followed up a strong second day score of 76 with a three-over-par score of 75, bringing her three day total to 231 (+15). Howie's score placed her in a tie for ninth with Shane Crutchfield, who carded 75-72-83/231 for the event.
After moving up nine spots on day two with senior Abby Smith matched her second day score of 76 in the final round to finish in a tie for 12th with a total score of 234 (+18). Rachel Johnson finished championship tied for 22nd after carding 245/79-83-83.
The event marked the final tournament of Tom Elfers' career at Xavier. Elfers, who has served as the head coach of the Musketeers' women's golf program for nine years, announced his retirement earlier this season.
