The new 8,000-square foot academic center will serve Xavier's nearly 300 student-athletes
CINCINNATI --- Xavier University is proud to announce the opening of the Kevin and Georgette Crawford Student-Athlete Academic Center at the Cintas Center. The new 8,000-square foot academic center allows Xavier to give all of its nearly 300 student-athletes convenient access to academic resources in the same building as the training room and weight room facilities. The Crawford family was introduced to the Xavier student-athletes and posed for a photo with them in the new academic space as part of tonight's Student-Athlete Welcome Back Event at Cintas Center.
Â
In addition to the time-saving convenience of the academic center's location, the facility triples the amount of computers available for student-athletes to use currently. There are two private study rooms for meeting with tutors and learning specialists. There is a 10-seat conference room that will fill a variety of needs, including a quality space to meet with recruits and their families.
Â
Dr. Kevin Crawford, a former letter winner on the Xavier swim team, is a 1998 graduate of Xavier University who graduated summa cum laude and was named as a member of the National Jesuit Honor Society. After leaving XU, Dr. Crawford spent 12 years in the U.S. Air Force. While serving part of the time in a reserve capacity, he attended Medical School at Indiana University and Dermatology Residency at Emory University.  After separating honorably from the Air Force, Dr. Crawford founded Advanced Dermatology in Seymour, Indiana which has since completed a merger with Forefront Dermatology and is now the largest Dermatology Medical Group in Indiana.
Â
Dr. Crawford's wife, Georgette, is a graduate of Hanover College.  She is the founder and president of ADCS Realty, which owns and manages commercial properties across the state. They live with their two children, Lincoln and Caroline, in Columbus, Indiana.
Â
"Georgette and I are humbled to be involved in the development of this project," said Dr. Crawford. "Sr. Rose Ann Fleming played a major role in my decision to choose Xavier. My wife and I believe strongly in the importance of academics in the lives of student-athletes. Placing this academic center in close proximity to the training areas gives them another important resource and saves valuable time." Sr. Fleming, who celebrated her 83rd birthday today, was among those in attendance tonight to say thanks to the Crawford family.
Â
Kevin is not the only Crawford connection to Xavier University or Xavier Athletics. His sister Kristin swam four years and was a senior captain on the swim team, while brother Keith ran cross country at XU. His brother, Kyle, is also a proud Xavier graduate like his siblings.Â
Â
"The Kevin and Georgette Crawford Student-Athlete Academic allows us to serve our student-athlete academic needs in a much more efficient way," said Xavier Athletic Director Greg Christopher. "It gives our student-athletes a place to call home with more access, availability, space for tutoring, study halls and meeting with advisors in the same building, Cintas Center, that serves their athletic and medical needs. We are grateful for the incredible generosity of Kevin and Getta. This is an example of a former student-athlete impacting future generations of Musketeers."
