17 Former Xavier men's basketball student-athletes on current pro rosters
CINCINNATI --- Matt Stainbrook is the latest former Xavier University men's basketball player to sign a contract to play hoops overseas. Stainbrook, an All-BIG EAST center and 2014 Xavier graduate who helped the Musketeers reach the 2015 NCAA Tournament Sweet 16, has signed with Crailsheim in Germany for the 2015-16 season.
Stainbrook's signing brings the number of former Xavier players to 17 on active professional rosters in nine different countries outside the United States, joining Kenny Frease ('12) and Isaiah Philmore ('14) on German professional teams for the 2015-16 season. Two other former Musketeers who played overseas in the 2014-15 season, Lionel Chalmers ('04) and Jordan Crawford, are free agents and could raise the number of Xavier's active international pros to 19 for this upcoming season. Dee Davis, 2015 graduate, is actively searching for an opportunity to play professionally as well and could raise that number as high as 20.
The other former XU players who have signed to play overseas this season include Tu Holloway ('12), who just signed a contract and is headed to Venezuela. The list also includes Derrick Brown ('09) in Turkey, Brandon Cole ('07) in Kuwait, Justin Doellman ('07) and Romain Sato ('04) in Spain, B.J.
