Junior goalkeeper collected career-high 13 saves against UC
NEW YORK - Junior goalkeeper earned honors from the BIG EAST office for a second-straight week, taking a spot on the Weekly Honor Roll following her performance against Cincinnati on Sunday.
Piccus collected 13 saves against UC to keep the score tied, 0-0, through two periods of extra time. Eight of her saves came in the second period of regulation alone, including a leaping-stop to get hand on a free kick that would have passed just under the crossbar. Piccus' 13 saves nearly doubles her previous career high of seven, set earlier this season against IUPUI. Piccus' weekend total of 17 saves also includes four saves in a narrow 2-1 loss to Ohio on Friday night.
Piccus has collected 52 saves in nearly 780 minutes of game time through nine games this season for the Musketeers. She has played in each of the Musketeers' five shutouts this season, including being in-goal for three complete shutouts.
This is the Cleveland, Ohio native's second honor from the BIG EAST offices, following up a Goalkeeper of the Week nomination from last week. She is the fourth Musketeer to earn recognition from the conference this season, joining Samantha Dewey (Rookie of the Week – 8/24, Weekly Honor Roll – 9/7), Tori Doss (Weekly Honor Roll – 8/24) andKenadie Carlson (Weekly Honor Roll – 8/31). A Xavier women's soccer student-athlete has been honored in each week of the 2015 season.
Xavier now moves into conference play with defending BIG EAST Champion No. 21 DePaul. The Musketeers and the Blue Demons are set for a 2:00 p.m. first kick on Saturday, Sept 26. Live stats will be available through GoXavier.com and a video stream will be available from the BIG EAST Digital Network.
