Swimming Heads to WVU for Big 12 vs. BIG EAST Weekend

Events begin Friday at 6 PM, continue through Saturday
CINCINNATI - Xavier men's and women's swimming travel to Morgantown, W. Va. this weekend to get an early look at conference competition. The Musketeers will join the host West Virginia for the Big 12 vs. BIG EAST Weekend, also featuring BIG EAST competitors Seton Hall and Butler. The event begins on Friday evening at 6:00 p.m. ET and continues on Saturday, with first events set to begin at 10:00 a.m.

- West Virginia opened the 2016-17 season at the beginning of October at the West Virginia State Games in Huntington, W.Va.
- Over the course of the two-day competition, the WVU Mountaineer Men won 19 of 20 events, clinching their fifth consecutive title.
- The women placed second, behind Marshall, winning six events with an overall score of 986 points.

- Seton Hall women kicked off the season with victories over Saint Peters and Montclair State at the beginning of October in South Orange, N.J.
- The Pirates had eight different competitors score event victories including the 100 and 200 breaststroke and 200 freestyle.
- The SHU men also took wins over Saint Peter's and Montclair State
- 10 different Pirates won events, including two freshmen who won a pair of individual events. Tyler Kauth swept the backstroke events while Joshua Tosoni took the top spot in both the 100 and 200 breaststroke.

BUTLER BULLDOGS (W)

- Butler hosted the BU Double Dual on October 2, 2016 to kick off their 2016-17 schedule. The Bulldogs, who only field a women's team, went 2-3 at the event, held at Fishers High School. BU picked up wins over Western Illinois, and Valparaiso while falling to Wright State, Xavier and Saint Louis.
- The top finisher for BU was Audrey Gosnell, who took second in the 50 free with a time of 24.59, finishing only behind Xavier's Emily Conners.

 2015 BIG 12 / BIG EAST WEEKEND |
- At last year's Big 12/BIG EAST Weekend, the Xavier women finished with a 2-1 record, picking up wins over BIG EAST foes Seton Hall (191-158) and Butler (260-71) while falling to the host Mountaineers (266-93).
- The men finished with a record of 1-1 at last season's meet, with a 177-154 win over Seton Hall and a 251-108 loss to West Virginia.

- The Xavier women opened the season with a 5-0 sweep at the Butler Double Dual, Western Illinois (166.00-46.00), Butler (159.50-44.50), Saint Louis (131.00-91.00), Wright State (133.00-89.00) and Valparaiso (169.50-31.50).
- Katie Kerr won a pair of events to lead the scoring for Xavier. The sophomore took first in the 200 free (1:56.87) and the 500 free (5:16.74)
- Paxtyn Drew and Caroline Gaertner tied for the top spot in the 200 back, both touching the wall in 2:06.85.
- Freshman Emily Conners won the 50 free in her first collegiate meet with a time of 23.96. The time puts Conners in the Xavier record book as the eighth fastest in school history.
- Xavier's women swept the relays, with Paxtyn Drew, Becca Titterton, Gaertner and Conners taking first in the 200 medley and Paxtyn Drew, Abigail Garner, Gaertner and Conners taking the top spot in the 400 free relay.
- Ali Fort also entered the Xavier top-20 records with a time of 2:10.75 in the 200 back.

- At the Butler Double Dual, Xavier picked up a pair of wins on the men's side, over Valparaiso and Western Illinois, while falling to Wright State and Saint Louis.
- The top individual finish of the day for the Musketeers came in the 100 free, with Rodrigo Suriano taking the top spot with a time of 46.53
- The men closed out the event with a first place finish in the 400 free relay, with Sam Johanns, Brandon Abboud, Knox Hitt and Suriano setting a time of 3:08.35

- Xavier returns to action with a pair of meets next week, first traveling to Louisville to face the Cardinals at Ralph Wright Natatorium on Friday, Oct. 21 at 1:00 p.m.
- On Saturday, Oct. 22, the Musketeers head north, facing the Miami Redhawks at 1:00 p.m. at the Corwin M. Nixon Aquatic Center.
