Musketeers Post Season-High Hitting Percentage, Top Hoyas in Three Sets

Xavier hits .420, moves to 5-3 in BIG EAST action
CINCINNATI – Xavier volleyball posted a season-high .420 hitting percentage on Friday night, picking up a 3-0 win (25-14, 25-16, 25-14) over Georgetown at Cintas Center.
The Musketeers improved to 11-10 (5-3 BIG EAST), while the Hoyas dropped to 6-15 (2-6 BIG EAST).
Xavier continues its five-match homestand on Saturday, Oct. 15 against Villanova at 6 p.m. The Wildcats (13-8, 4-4 BIG EAST) dropped a four-set match (18-25, 25-18, 21-25, 23-25) at Butler on Friday night.
• Abbey Bessler led the Musketeers with a match-high 12 kills and .571 hitting percentage. The outside hitter also had nine digs in the win. She has double-figure kills in all but five matches this season.
• Kristen Massa added nine kills and a .533 hitting percentage, while Morgan Finn chipped in eight kills. Finn also hit .312 in the victory.
• Defensively, Meredith Klare posted a match-high 10 digs. Samantha Foti added six for the Musketeers.
• Xavier matched its season-high in aces with seven for the second time in as many matches. Samantha Foti led Xavier with a match-high three service aces.
• McKena Estes dished out a team-high 21 assists, while Mackenzi Humm added 13.
• Xavier also had 10 more total team blocks (11-1) than the Hoyas, paced by Brooke Betts who had seven blocks. Alexis Newsome also chipped in four solo blocks.
• Xavier led by as many as nine points, 20-11, in the opening set – building the lead behind a .522 hitting percentage. Morgan Finn had half of her kills in the opening frame to go along with a .500 attack percentage.
• The Musketeers never trailed in the set and built an 11-point advantage, 22-11, late in the set. Xavier had four total blocks in the set and limited the Hoyas to a .065 hitting percentage.
• Xavier never trailed in the final frame and hit .605, its highest percentage on the night. Abbey Bessler had four kills in the set with a .800 hitting percentage, while Kristen Massa posted five kills with a .833 hitting percentage.
