Musketeers Improve to 2-0 on the Season with Win Over Buffalo

J.P. Macura leads Xavier with 18 points including a perfect 10-10 from the line
CINCINNATI-The Xavier Musketeers improve to 2-0 on the season by defeating the Buffalo Bulls 86-53 Monday night at Cintas Center. The Musketeers had four players score in double digits, led by J.P. Macura's 18 points and three assists.
Both teams struggled to score the first three and a half minutes but that quickly ended when Edmond Sumner found Macura for the open layup. The Musketeers continued to go on a 10-0 holding the Bulls scoreless the first six minutes of the game.
The Musketeers dominated the Bulls on points in the paint, 22-4 to end the first including Quentin Goodin with the behind the back pass, finding Trevon Bluiett for the quick bucket.
Freshman Tyrique Jones completed an impressive first half including a monster block that was picked up by Sumner for the fast break dunk, forcing Buffalo to call a timeout and extending the lead to 14.
The Musketeers finished the first half with a 44-25 lead over the Bulls with help from Jones' seven rebounds and Sumner's 11 points.
Xavier outscored Buffalo 37-19 over a 15 minute time period in the second half with help from RaShid Gaston and Macura combining for 16 points.
The Musketeers shot 74 percent from the free throw line, led by Macura, who shot an impressive 100 percent from the line, going 10-10 and improving his record on shooting 100 percent on the season and setting a career high.
With help from Jones' 11 rebounds, the Musketeers out rebounded the Bulls 40-33 including 32 defensive rebounds.
The Musketeers outscored the Bulls 40-8 on points in the paint, 17-9 on points off turnovers and 31-10 of bench points.
The Xavier Musketeers are headed to Orlando November 17 for first game of the 2016 Tire Pros Invitational against Missouri at 1 p.m. which can be found on ESPN U. They will return home November 26 against Northern Iowa at 12 p.m.
