Michael Pettinichi bests own school record in 200 breast

CLEVELAND - After three days of competition at the CSU Magnus Cup, Xavier swimming returns home with a second place finish on the men's side, and third place finish for the women and a number of new school records on both sides.

WOMEN'S HIGHLIGHTS

Ashley Whiteley finished third in the 50 fly, one of two Musketeers in the A Final.
Caroline Gaertner led a trio of Musketeers who finished in the top five in the 200 back, placing third with a time of 2:00.58. Ali Fort and Paxtyn Drew finished fourth and fifth, respectively
Ali Fort finished second in the 50 back with a time of 26.17. Paxtyn Drew also finished in the top five with a time of 26.61.
The Xavier women closed out the event with a third place finish in the 400 free relay.
Xavier's women finished third of 14 teams with 884 points.

MEN'S HIGHLIGHTS

The Xavier men went 1-2-3 in the 50 fly, led in by Knox Hitt's time of 22.33. David Bunnell and Brandon Abboud finished second and third, respectively. All told, the Musketeers accounted for five of the 10 spots in the A Final.
Michael Pettinichi, competing in the B Final, posted the top overall time in the 200 breast, besting his own school record with a time of 2:01.15.
Sam Johanns took second in the 50 back, one of five Musketeers in the top 10 times of the event, including Nathan Runyon who posted the top time in the B Final.
The Xavier A team of Johanns, Hitt, Enrique Hernandez and Rodrigo Suriano finished second in the 400 free relay to close the event.
Xavier finished second behind host Cleveland State with 1320.5 points, scoring more than 500 points more than third place George Washington

TOMORROW'S EVENTS

The Magnus Cup is the final full-squad meet of the fall 2016 semester for the Musketeers. Selected qualifiers will compete in the AT&T Winter Nationals in Atlanta, Ga. from Dec. 1-3. The entire squad will next be in action on Jan. 6, 2017, when Xavier travels to Indianapolis to face IUPUI.
