Junior defender anchored Xavier's defense, playing every available minute in 17 of 19 matches
CINCINNATI - Xavier men's soccer junior defender Cory Brown was named to the postseason Top Drawer Soccer Division I Best XI on Thursday, earning the national honor for the first time.
The Nelson, New Zealand native was named to the third team after earning TDS preseason Best XI accolades in each of the last two seasons. He was also named to the TDS Best XI Freshman First Team in 2014.
One of three BIG EAST men's soccer student-athletes to earn the award, Brown was joined by Providence's Julian Gressel (second team) and Butler's David Goldsmith (second team).
The program's second BIG EAST Defender of the Year, Brown started all 19 matches for XU in 2016. He registered three points (one goal, one assist) and played every available minute in 17 of 19 matches. XU's defense posted five shutouts as Brown ranked second on the team with 1,771 minutes played.
For his career, Brown has made 60 starts and helped XU post two of the top three team GAA's in program history (2014, 2015). During his three seasons manning the center back position, XU has posted 25 shutouts (including a program-record 11 in 2014).
