Musketeers drop series after Eagles plate three in middle innings
CINCINNATI, Ohio – Despite 5.1 innings of scoreless relief, Xavier baseball dropped its rubber game against Morehead State 3-2 on Sunday at Hayden Field.
The Musketeers left a runner on in the fifth and had a potential rally defused by a sensational defensive play by Morehead State's second baseman in the eighth inning. Morehead State's closer, Tyler Keele, came in to pitch a scoreless ninth with a strikeout to earn his second save of the weekend.
The Musketeers dropped to 11-21 overall with the loss, while the Eagles improved to 19-13 with the series win.

· Andre Jernigan and Nate Soria scored runs, but XU was held to just two runs and three hits.
· Sophomore Will LaRue stole his team-leading 22nd base.
· Rylan Bannon led off the fifth with a single, extending his team-best hitting streak to 11 straight games. The sophomore had a hit in all three games this weekend, finishing the series 4-for-9 (.444) to raise his season average to .283 overall.
· Matt Fallon also singled, finishing 2-for-3. The junior center fielder reached base in all three games this weekend, and has now reached safely in 27 of 32 games this season.Â

· Damien Richard (2-2) tossed 3.2 innings, allowing three earned runs after running into some wildness in the fourth. The sophomore righty walked a career-high six and struck out one.
· Trey Schramm got out of a bases-loaded jam in the fourth and continued to post zeroes, tying a season-high with 3.2 innings of shutout ball. The freshman righty scattered three hits and struck out one.
· Garrett Schilling entered in the eighth, striking out one and getting a pop out to escape a two one, one out jam. The sophomore righty closed out the game with 1.2 innings of scoreless relief, striking out one.
· Schilling has now tossed 13 straight innings without allowing an earned run, dropping his season ERA to a team-best 1.50.

THIRD INNING: Nate Soria led off the inning and was hit by a pitch, advancing to third on a one out single through the right side by Matt Fallon. Will LaRue then grounded into a fielder's choice, playing Soria to make it a 2-1 game.
FOURTH INNING: Andre Jernigan led off the frame with a walk, moving to second on a wild pitch. After advancing again on a ground out, Jernigan came across to score on a ground ball hit by Roger Danison.Â
