Montaño Finishes Runner Up, Team Third at Rutherford Intercollegiate in Pennsylvania

UNIVERSITY PARK, Penn. – BIG EAST Golfer of the Week Jose Montaño finished runner up individually after an even par final round at the Rutherford Intercollegiate. The sophomore's first round score of 66 (-5) yesterday morning was a career low. Montaño also led the team with 13 birdies. This marks the fifth time in a row Montaño has finished inside the top three individually.
Daniel Wetterich finished inside the top 10 as well after a final round 72 (+1). The freshman led the team with 37 pars and was second on the team with 10 birdies.
Xavier, as a team, was very consistent shooting 283-289-289 over the three rounds for a total combined score of 861 (+9). The Musketeers trailed second place West Virginia (+1) by 8 strokes.
John Burger finished tied for 27th after a final round 72 (+1). The graduate student played the par 5's under par for the tournament (-3), averaging 4.67 strokes a hole.
Fox Morrissey finished tied for 35th after a final round 74 (+3). The junior had the lone eagle for Xavier after holing one out from the fairway.
Junior David Long finished tied for 45th after a final round 75 (+4), Freshman Ryan Podufal, competing as an individual, shot a final round 83 (+12).
The Musketeers return to the course on Sunday, May 1st for the BIG EAST Championship in Okatie, South Carolina.
