LEXINGTON, Ky. - Xavier track and field wrapped up action regular-season action at the Kentucky Relays on Saturday, May 7. The two squads combined to post 12 top-10 finishes and set one new school record.
Â
Caleb Hernandez - 400-meter dash (52.04), 10th place
4x400 meter relay (42.09), 3rd place
Zachary Polk - Long jump (7.00m), 4th place
Zachary Polk - High jump (1.90m), 8th place
Â
"Josh Phelan had a big breakthrough today in the 400-meter hurdles. He smashed the 60-second barrier that has been eluding him ever since he switched to the event. His fitness level is as good as it has ever been, and he is starting to figure out the rhythm of the race. I expect another big drop in his time next week at BIG EAST."
"The 4x100 meter relay dropped over 0.7 seconds off their time and tied us in the BIG EAST rankings with Butler at 4th. We have battled some injuries throughout the season on this relay but things are starting to come together and after watching them run today I am looking forward to seeing them compete at the conference meet."Â
Â
Kara Robinson - 400-meter hurdles (1:04.73), 3rd place ^
Vanessa Johnson - 400-meter hurdles (1:07.63), 5th place ^
Victoria Chiller - 800-meter run (2:17.35), 8th place
Sarah Clark - 800-meter run (2:17.83), 10th place
4x100 meter relay (49.71), 6th placeÂ
4x400 meter relay (3:54.52), 3rd place #
Karmen Auble - High jump (1.50m), 9th place

Â
"Kara and Vanessa both ran personal bests today in 400-meter hurdles. They have been working hard on getting to the first hurdles fast enough to set the rest of the race up properly and today it paid off. They placed 3rd and 5th in the meet and moved up to 8th and 9th in the BIG EAST, respectively, and should both have a good shot at scoring next weekend."
"The 4x400 meter-relay team of Vanessa Johnson, Sydney Larkin, Kaitlyn Magrane, and Brenna McGrath broke the school record, eclipsing the old mark by exactly a half of a second. This group has great chemistry and has been pushing hard to break this particular record. The time places us 6th in the BIG EAST and puts us in a great spot heading into the championship meet."
Â
The Musketeers return to action at the BIG EAST Championships on May 13-14 in Genva, Ohio. The two-day meet will be held at the SPIRE Institute.Â
