Women's Soccer's Season Comes to a Close in BIG EAST Quarterfinals

Musketeers fall 3-0 to Marquette in Milwaukee
MILWAUKEE - Xavier women's soccer's best campaign as a member of the BIG EAST Conference came to a close on Sunday in Milwaukee, when the Musketeers fell to Marquette, 3-0, in the BIG EAST Championship Quarterfinal. Nate Lie's first season as head coach at Xavier ended at 8-8-4 overall with a 4-3-2 record in the BIG EAST, as the Musketeers finished with a winning conference record for the first time since 2005 and the first conference tournament appearance since 2003.
Marquette took a 1-0 lead into the half and added a pair in the second period to secure the win, advancing to play No. 1 seed Georgetown in Washington, D.C. on Thursday.

- Xavier finished the season 8-8-4Â overall, marking the first season at .500 or above since 2013, when Xavier finished 9-8-1.
- The Musketeers' record of 4-3-2 in BIG EAST play. The Musketeers posted a winning conference record for the first time since 2005.
- Xavier finished the regular season with a program-best 14 points in the BIG EAST standings.
- Xavier limited 16 of 20 opponents in the 2017 regular season to a single goal or less. The game against Marquette was the first game Xavier allowed multiple goals in since was Sept. 8, a 3-1 setback at Duquesne.Â
- The Musketeers recorded 12 shots against the Golden Eagles, including three for Courtney Lankford. Emma Westwater and Carly Alfano each took a pair.
- Lankford created the best look of the day for the Musketeers just before the break, shooting from straight on from just outside of the penalty box that forced the MU keeper to make a save to keep the ball from sneaking just under the crossbar.
- Toni Bizzarro collected four saves with three goals against to finish the season with a record of 8-8-3.
- Carly Alfano played the full 90 minutes on the Xavier backline. Alfano clocked a team-high 1,900 minutes as part of a Xavier back line that gave up only 23 goals, 12 fewer than the 2016 season, helping the senior earn All-BIG EAST Second Team accolades.
- Sydney Schembri closed out her rookie campaign with a team-high six tallies and 12 points, helping earn BIG EAST Freshman of the Year.
- Tori Doss lead the Musketeers with seven points in conference action on three goals and an assist, helping to earn the redshirt-senior earn All-BIG EAST Second Team honors.
