Men stand in third, women fourth after first of three days of competition

CLEVELAND - After six racing events on both the men's and the women's side, Xavier men's swimming stands in third while the women stand in fourth win two days of competition remaining.

WOMEN'S HIGHLIGHTS

Xavier's women started the finals with a third place finish in the 200 free relay, with Emily Conners, Abby Garner, Tianna Vozar and Paxtyn Drew touching the wall in 1:33.93, the fastest time by a BIG EAST school in the event this season.
Emily Conners posted the top finish by a Musketeer, placing second in the 50 free with a time of 23.39. The time is the fastest in the BIG EAST so far this season.
Samantha White's time of 30.61 in the 50 breast is the fastest time by a BIG EAST competitor this season in the non-traditional event.
Katie Kerr's time of 4:59.53 in the 500 free is the fastest by a Musketeer this season, taking fifth place in the finals heat.
Alison Herman posted the third fastest time in the BIG EAST, and the fastest by a Musketeer, in the 200 IM with a time of 2:06.02.
Xavier's women closed out the event by posting the fastest time so far by a BIG EAST squad in teh 400 medley relay, with Paxtyn Drew, White, Caroline Gaertner and Conners posting a time of 3:48.42.
Xavier's women collected 241 points to stand in fourth place of 14 teams.

MEN'S HIGHLIGHTS

Xavier's men opened the meet by taking second in the 200 free relay, with a time of 1:23.93, the fastest time in the BIG EAST so far this season.
Robert Snader placed eighth in the finals of the 50 breast with a time fo 26.74 after posting the fastest time in the non-traditional event by a BIG EAST competitor this season during prelims at 26.64.
Alex Wolfred finished seventh with a time of 4:38.05 in the 500 free, the best time by a Musketeer or any BIG EAST Competitor so far this season.
Chase Baldwin's time of 1:54.18 in the prelims of the 200 IM was the fastest time in the BIG EAST this season. Baldwin finished 10th in the finals with a time of 1:55.40. Landon Clark took the top spot in the second-fastest heat with a time of 1:54.71.
Enrique Hernandez's time in the finals of the 50 free matched Alex Sironen's time in the prelims for the top time by a Musketeer in the 50 free so far this season at 21.33.
Alex Sironen, Brandon Abboud, Snader and Hernadez posted a time of 3:22.47 in the 400 medley relay to take third to close out the first night. The time stands as the fastest in the BIG EAST so far this season.
Xavier's men collected 285 points to stand in third of ten teams.

TOMORROW'S EVENTS

Day two of the CSU Magnus Cup begins with prelims at 9:00 a.m. tomorrow.
Day two's events include: 200 medley relay, 400 IM, 100 butterfly, 200 freestyle, 100 breaststroke, 100 backstroke and 800 freestyle relay as well as women's three meter diving and men's one meter diving.
