Xavier has now won 11 of its last 14 meetings against city rival Cincinnati

CINCINNATI – Xavier women's basketball won its fourth straight game over Cincinnati, 53-50, on Sunday evening in the Skyline Chili Crosstown Shootout. The Musketeers (5-3) have now won 11 of the last 14 meetings against the Bearcats (6-4).

THE STORYLINES

• Xavier hit three of its first four shots to take an early 8-2 lead. The Musketeers led by seven twice in the opening quarter before the Bearcats closed the frame on a 5-2 run, making the score 13-11.

• The Bearcats tied the game at 15, but the Musketeers went 5-for-10 from the floor to end the half – using a 13-8 run to take a 28-21 lead into the locker room. Aaliyah Dunham led Xavier with six points, while Kindell Fincher and Princess Stewart both added five. A'riana Gray led the Musketeers with five rebounds as Xavier held a 21-19 advantage on the glass.

• The Musketeers never trailed in the game and led by as many as 10, 35-25, at the 5:34 mark in the third quarter.

• Tied at 43 with 6:40 left in regulation, Kindell Fincher scored eight consecutive points to give the Musketeers an eight-point lead. Cincinnati battled back to get within one, 51-50, with 1:17 left on the clock before a Princess Stewart layup in the closing seconds sealed the Xavier victory.

NOTABLES

• Xavier attempted a school-record 35 3-pointers, knocking down 10 shots from behind the arc. The Musketeers have made 10 or more three pointers in a game three times this season.

• Kindell Fincher scored a team-high 13 points on 5-for-10 shooting. She added five rebounds and one assist.

• Princess Stewart added a season-high 12 points on 5-for-9 shooting. The freshman guard added a game-high five assists to go along with five rebounds.

• A'riana Gray led the Musketeers on the glass with seven rebounds. Cincinnati won the battle on the glass, 40-34.

• Anniina Äijänen added seven points, four rebounds and one steal. The senior forward finished her career with a 4-0 mark against the Bearcats.

UP NEXT

• Xavier returns to action on Sunday, Dec. 17-18 at the West Palm Beach Invitational. The Musketeers take on Furman and Missouri during tournament play.
