Xavier hit a season-high 13 three pointers on Friday afternoon

CINCINNATI - Xavier women's basketball ended non-conference action with a 70-52 win over Florida A&M on Friday afternoon.

The Musketeers moved to 7-4 on the year, while Florida A&M dropped to 2-10.

THE STORYLINES

• FAMU took an early 3-0 lead before the Musketeers outscored the Rattlers, 20-6, for the remainder of the first quarter to take a 20-9 advantage. Xavier led by as many as 17 (30-13) with 5:53 left in the first half before taking a 36-20 advantage into the locker room.

• Ashley Gomez knocked down three 3-pointers in the first half to lead the Musketeers. A'riana Gray and Deja Ross both had four rebounds as the Musketeers held a 20-15 advantage on the glass.

• Xavier opened the second half by scoring five unanswered points to take its first 20-point advantage of the game. The Musketeers led by as many as 23 points four times in the second half before pulling away for the 18-point win.

NOTABLES

• Anniina Äijänen and Na'Teshia Owens paced the Musketeers with 10 points each. Äijänen added a team-high six rebounds, while Owens had a game-high four steals.

• A'riana Gray and Deja Ross both added six rebounds as the Musketeers held a 40-38 advantage on the glass. Princess Stewart added five rebounds to match her season high in the statistical category.

• Xavier dished out a season-high 21 assists, paced by Aaliyah Dunham who had six. Na'Teshia Owens and Kindell Fincher both added three assists.

• Ashley Gomez matched her career high in scoring with nine points. The sophomore guard was 3-for-6 from behind the arc.

• The Musketeers hit a season-high 13 three pointers, their fourth game of the year with 10 or more three pointers. Xavier attempted 35 three pointers, matching their season high against Cincinnati on Dec. 10 - a XU school record.

• Xavier forced 16 turnovers, turning the miscues into 20 points. The Musketeers also had 29 bench points.

• The Musketeers moved to 28-4 in home non-conference games over the last four seasons. Xavier also moved to 1-0 in the all-time series with Florida A&M.
