Xavier Defeats Providence on Senior Day

Freshman Na'Teshia Owens leads the Musketeers to victory with 14 points on 5-for-5 shooting
CINCINNATI - Senior Raeshaun Gaffney and freshman Na'Teshia Owens combined for 30 points on Sunday afternoon, leading Xavier to a 67-57 win against Providence. The Musketeers improved to 12-17 (4-14 BIG EAST), while the Friars moved to 12-17 (4-14 BIG EAST).

Xavier jumped out to a nine-point lead at halftime and never trailed for the remainder of the game.

• Xavier showed dominance on the boards by out-rebounding Providence, 42-34. Maddison Blackwell paced the Musketeers on the glass with a game-high 10 rebounds, her 12th career outing with 10 or more rebounds.Â

• Raeshaun Gaffney led the Musketeers with 16 points on 5-for-10 shooting. Na'Teshia Owens finished with a career-high 14 points as the freshman guard went 5-for-5 from the floor.Â

• Kindell Fincher added 11 points, four rebounds and three assists. The junior guard also knocked down three, 3-pointers.

• Both teams opened the quarter having a little trouble shooting, but Providence outscored Xavier, 15-10 during the quarter.

• Xavier shot 18.2 percent from the field, but they shot 100 percent  from the free throw line, going 6-for-6. Both teams had five turnovers.
