Gallagher's Walk-Off Sacrifice Fly Lifts Xavier Baseball to 5-4 Win Against OSU

Junior shortstop drives in three, including game-winner as XU clinches weekend series versus Buckeyes
CINCINNATIÂ - Junior shortstop Mitch Gallagher drove in three runs, including the game-winner on a walk-off sacrifice fly, as Xavier clinched a weekend series victory with a 5-4 win against Ohio State on Sunday at Hayden Field.
Sophomore Trey Schramm (1-0) picked up the win with four innings of shutout relief as XU improved to 9-10 overall with a second straight one-run win against the Buckeyes.
Ohio State dropped to 8-10 overall with the setback.

• Mitch Gallagher went 1-for-3 with three RBI, including two sacrifice flies.
• Will LaRue (2-for-2, RBI) and Matt Fallon (2-for-3, RBI) both contributed multi-hit games from the eight and nine spots in the order.
• Sam Flamini (1-for-4, R) also added a hit for XU.
• Nate Soria walked and scored a pair of runs, including the game-winner in the bottom of the ninth.

• Junior righty Garrett Schilling was hurt by the longball, but still gave the Musketeers five solid innings with six strikeouts. Schilling allowed four earned runs, all coming on home runs (two solo shots and one two-run homer).Â
• Sophomore righty Trey Schramm (1-0) was brilliant in relief, going four scoreless innings and limiting the Buckeyes to just two hits while striking out a pair.

SECOND INNING: Sam Flamini singled through the left side to lead off the inning, moving to second on a walk by Nate Monastra. Nate Soria followed with another free pass to load the bases, setting up a sacrifice fly by Will LaRue to make it 1-0. Matt Fallon batted next, bunting a ball to the third base side and reaching to score Monastra. Mitch Gallagher capped the scoring with a single to center, bringing home Soria.
SEVENTH INNING: Conor Grammes walked to lead off the inning, moving to second on a single by Will LaRue. After a sacrifice bunt by Matt Fallon moved both runners over, Mitch Gallagher lofted a sacrifice fly to right to score Grammes.
NINTH INNING: Nate Soria was hit by a pitch, going to second on a sacrifice bunt by Conor Grammes. OSU then chose to intentionally walk Will LaRue, leading to a bases-loaded situation after a single to left by Matt Fallon. With the bases jammed, Mitch Gallagher flied out to center to bring home Soria as the winning run.
