Three Musketeers Earn All-BIG EAST Track and Field Honors

Xavier established seven school records at the championship meet
NEW YORK – Three Xavier track and field athletes were named to the All-BIG EAST Team on Thursday afternoon. The Musketeers recently competed at the BIG EAST Championships on Feb. 24-25 in Staten Island, N.Y.
On the women's side, sophomore Kara Robinson was the lone honoree. She placed third in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.81 seconds to break her previous school record in the event. She earns all-conference indoor honors for the second time in as many seasons having placed third in the event last year at the championship meet.
On the men's side, Russell Platt and Zachary Polk both earned all-conference honors. Polk earns the honors in the long jump and 60-meter dash.
Polk won the long jump for the second straight year at the indoor championships with a jump of 7.49m, breaking his previous school record in the event. He also placed third in the 60-meter dash with a time of 6.91. The junior has now won 13 medals at the conference championships (indoor and outdoor).
Platt won the 60-meter and 200-meter dashes. He matched his school record in the 60-meter dash, posting a time of 6.81 seconds. The senior completed the 200-meter dash in a time of 21.51.
Platt also placed second in the high jump (2.03m). He was tabbed the BIG EAST "Men's High Point Performer of the Meet" as he collected 28 points. All told, he has collected eight medals during his track and field career at Xavier.
Xavier opens the outdoor portion of its schedule on March 18 at the Stan Lyons Invitational.
