Women's Golf Finishes Strong at BIG EAST Championship

Senior Rachel Johnson ties career low round on the final day
CALLAWASSIE ISLAND, S.C. – The Xavier women's golf team finished the BIG EAST Championship this afternoon, finishing fourth, edging out three-time defending champion Seton Hall. A pair of Musketeers finished in the top-10 individually.
Rachel Johnson shined on the last day. The senior finished her Xavier career with a season-low round 72 (E) thanks to consistent play with two birdies. Johnson led the team with 34 pars.
Mikayla Fitzpatrick fired a final round 73 (+1) that moved her into the top-10. The freshman led the team and was third in the tournament with eight birdies.
Mikayla Smith shot a final round 75 (+3). The sophomore excelled on the par 5's averaging 4.76 strokes a hole (-4).
Grace Howie was second on the team in pars with 30, while Lindsey Murray was second in birdies with five.

"I'm super happy for the girls today! We could have easily gone out without much energy since we were in 5th going into today, but we stayed positive and went out and showed what we are capable of. It was a lot of fun to have people play well and see us climb on the leaderboard."

"I was excited to see Rachel finish with a great round, tying her career low score! She's done a good job strengthening our team chemistry this year, so I know everyone was happy to see her go out on a high note!"
