Polk Wins Two Gold Medals on Final Day of BIG EAST Championships

VILLANOVA, Pa. - Zachary Polk collected four medals at the BIG EAST Outdoor Track and Field Championships, highlighted by two gold medals on Saturday afternoon on the final day of the meet. The junior standout was tabbed the "Men's High Point Performer of the Meet" as he collected 28.5 points.

The two-day meet was hosted by Villanova University at Jumbo Elliott Track and Field.

NOTABLES

• The men's 4x100 meter relay team of Chris Taylor, Zachary Polk, Matthew Bryant and Russell Platt captured the program's first gold medal at a BIG EAST Outdoor Track and Field Championship. Xavier joined the conference in 2013.

• Zachary Polk won four medals (two gold, two silver) at the championship meet. The junior standout has now won 17 medals at the BIG EAST Championships (indoor and outdoor) during his career.

• Russell Platt also won four medals (one gold, one silver, two bronze) at the championship meet. The senior concluded his career with a total of 12 medals at the conference championships (indoor and outdoor).

• Madeline Britton's fifth place finish in the 10,000-meter run on Friday evening marked the first time the Xavier women have collected points in the traditionally competitive event at the BIG EAST Championships.

• Karmen Auble earned a bronze medal in the heptathlon for the second time in as many BIG EAST Outdoor Championships. She collected 3,929 points over the two-day meet.

• The Xavier women tied for sixth place, their best finish at the BIG EAST Outdoor Championships since joining the conference. The 44 points scored were the second most by the program at the BIG EAST Outdoor Championships (45 points in 2014 is the program high - BIG EAST Championships).

• The Xavier men finished with 69 points, the most points by the program since joining the conference. The Musketeers finished sixth overall on Saturday.
