ABOUT THE MEET
• The Louisville Sports Commission (LSC) will host 3,000 runners representing 142 colleges and universities from 30 states and Canada in the 16th annual Louisville Cross Country Classic. The Classic is tracking once again to be the largest college meet contested in the U.S. in 2017 and will bring together 42 men's teams and 41 women's teams currently ranked in the national collegiate cross country polls (NCAA Division I Regional and National, NCAA Division II National, NCAA Division III National, and NAIA.)
All-Ohio Championships
"This week I'm sending our men's team and a small group from our women's team to the All-Ohio Championship. The All-Ohio is a great opportunity for many of our athletes who are from Ohio to race against some of their high school rivals and see how they match up. There's definitely a sense of pride when it comes to this meet and I'm glad that we can continue to support that."
"On the men's side, we'll see the return of Benjamin Bockoven into the lineup which should give the guys a nice boost up front. The guys have had three weeks of solid training so I know they can't wait to get out there and race again. As long as they get a clean start and focus on what we've talked about over 8K, they should be in contention to crack the top six or seven teams."
"Since most of our varsity girls will be at Louisville on Saturday, we will be a little light up front on the women's side but this is a great opportunity for a number of girls on our team. This will help determine who continues to travel and ultimately who gets the final two spots for the BIG EAST Championships."
Louisville Classic
"I see this meet as a really big opportunity for our varsity women's team. Outside of the BIG EAST Championships, this meet will be our best shot at earning at-large points for the NCAA Championship. It will also be a great warmup for the level of competition they'll face at the NCAA Great Lakes Regional, which serves as the NCAA qualifier. Coming off their performance at the Commodore Classic two weeks ago, this group has a lot of momentum. They've tasted success and I know they're hungry for more. I know we have the talent and motivation to knock off one of the nationally ranked teams that will be in our race but it will all come down to how their legs feel on race day."
• Xavier was idle last week after competing at the Commodore Classic on Saturday, Sept. 16.
• The women's team was ranked 10th in the most recent U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Great Lakes Region as announced by the national organization on Monday. The Musketeers are ranked 10th for the second consecutive week.
• The Musketeers return to action at the Bradley Pink Classic on Friday, Oct. 13 in Peoria, Ill.
