Imani Partlow scored a career-high 19 points with nine rebounds
MILWAUKEE - Junior Imani Partlow scored a career-high 19 points to go along with nine rebounds on Sunday in the Musketeers' 88-67 BIG EAST road loss at Marquette.
The Musketeers (8-10, 1-6 BIG EAST) dropped their sixth straight game, while the Golden Eagles (13-5, 7-0 BIG EAST) remained unbeaten in conference play.
• The first quarter had eight lead changes and three ties. Xavier led 16-15 with 1:38 left on the clock before Marquette scored five unanswered points to take a 20-16 lead at the end of the frame. The Golden Eagles outscored the Musketeers, 23-14, in the second quarter to take a 43-30 advantage into the locker room.
• Imani Partlow paced the Musketeers with eight points and seven rebounds in the first half. The Musketeers held a 22-21 advantage on the glass at the break.
• A Kindell Fincher three pointer on the first play of the second half got Xavier within 10 (43-33). Marquette responded by going 5-for-6 from the floor to take a 53-38 lead and force a Xavier timeout. The Golden Eagles hit 69.6 percent (16-for-23) of their shot attempts in the third quarter to take a 77-45 advantage into the final frame.
• Xavier outscored Marquette, 22-11, in the final quarter behind a .563 field-goal percentage (9-for-16). Imani Partlow was 4-for-4 from the floor with 11 points in the final period.
• Imani Partlow scored a career-high 19 points on 7-for-11 shooting. The junior forward also led the team on the glass with nine rebounds, nearly missing her fourth career double-double.
• Aaliyah Dunham added 12 points on 3-for-3 shooting, her fourth game of the year in double figures. The freshman guard also dished out a game-high six assists, her fourth game of the year with six assists.
• Jada Byrd and Kindell Fincher both added nine points for the Musketeers. Princess Stewart finished with eight points.
• Xavier was 15-for-17 from the foul line with Imani Partlow (5-for-5), Jada Byrd (2-for-2) and Princess Stewart (4-for-4) knocking down all of their attempts.
• Xavier won the battle on the glass, 41-38. Turnovers proved costly as the Golden Eagles turned 21 Xavier turnovers into 30 points.
• Xavier opens a four-game homestand on Friday, Jan. 19 against Providence. Tip-off is slated 7 p.m. from Cintas Center.
