With league results, Xavier has secured a top-six finish and a second-straight berth to the BIG EAST Championships
CINCINNATI - A Red Storm goal late in the first half ended a four-game unbeaten streak for Xavier women's soccer, giving the Musketeers the 1-0 setback on Sunday afternoon. Xavier held a sizable advantage on shots over St. John's, 19-3, during the Senior Day match, but were unable to find the equalizer, moving to 10-7-1 on the season. With results around the league, Xavier has clinched at least a sixth-place finish, earning a second straight BIG EAST Championship berth.
At 4-3-1 in BIG EAST play, Xavier stands in fourth-place in the conference standings after entering the day in a tie for third with St. John's. Based on the remaining match-ups, the Musketeers have secured a second-straight bid to the BIG EAST Championships by finishing no lower than six. With seeds two through six potentially in play, Xavier looks to secure the program's first home match in the BIG EAST Tournament by securing one of the top four seeds.
The Red Storm move into a tie for second place with Butler, securing a spot in the BIG EAST Championship. No. 4 Georgetown, Xavier's final regular season opponent, secured its bid, and with 24 points, wrapped up the No. 1 seed.
DePaul and Providence with 11 points each, stand in a tie for fifth place, just behind Xavier's 13 points. DePaul closes the season with St. John's, while Providence ends with Creighton, which stands in seventh place with 10 points. Villanova, in eighth place with 10 points, closes the season with Butler and also has the opportunity to secure a bid with a win, depending on results around the league.
Marquette and Seton Hall, in ninth and 10th place, respectively, have been eliminated from contention.
