Musketeers get tally late, but fall 3-1 to No. 1 seeded Hoyas
WASHINGTON, D.C - A break-through season for Xavier women's soccer came to a close on Thursday afternoon, as the No. 4 seeded Musketeers fell to the top-seeded, and No. 4 ranked nationally, Georgetown Hoyas at Shaw Field.
The Hoyas took the lead on a penalty kick just before the break, and added a pair of insurance goals in the first 10 minutes of the second half. Xavier got a tally from Andie Kennard in the final five minutes, but the Musketeers fell, 3-1, in the BIG EAST Semifinals.

53' | GEORGETOWN | Georgetown's Caitlin Farrell scored from the left side of the box off a header on a cross from Amanda Carolan to go ahead, 2-0.
53' | GEORGETOWN | Less than a minute later, Caitlin Farrell played the ball ahead on a breakaway, bringing Toni Bizzarro off her line. Farrell passed to Amanda Carolan who finished in the open net to go up, 3-0.
85' | XAVIER | Off a free kick from Samantha Dewey, Andie Kennard shot from straight in-front of the net. GU's keeper lost the ball in a scrum and the ball bounced in to cut into the Georgetown lead, 3-1.

- Andie Kennard's goal was her second of the season to bring her season total to five points. It marked only the seventh goal Georgetown had allowed all season, and only the third allowed by a BIG EAST squad.
- Samantha Dewey picked up an assist on Kennard's tally, her seventh of the season.
- GU held a 22-4 advantage on shots. Kennard, Samantha Dewey and Rachel Butler recorded shots in addition to McLaughlin's, with Dewey and Butler's looks on frame.
- Toni Bizzarro played 76 minutes in frame, collecting seven saves with three goals against.
- Olivia Jenkins came in-frame in the final 14 minutes, she did not face a shot on -frame.
- Hayley Jakovich, Grace Bahr and Allison Klimkowski each played over 85 minutes for the Xavier defense.

SEASON NOTES |
- Xavier's BIG EAST Semifinal appearance was the first since joining the BIG EAST in 2013, and the first time the Musketeers have advanced in the postseason since 2003, when Xavier topped St. Joseph's, 2-0, in the Atlantic 10 tournament.
- Xavier finished the season at 10-8-3, to finish the season with a .548 winning percentage, the first winning record for the Musketeers since 2013. Xavier's 10 wins in 2018 are the most for the program since 2003's 12-win season.
- The Musketeers finished a program-best fourth in the BIG EAST standings, hosting a BIG EAST Championship match for the first time since joining the conference.
- Xavier's 0-0 draw against No. 4 Georgetown to close out the regular season was the first result against a top-five team in program history.
- Xavier's defense forced its ninth shutout of the season against Georgetown, the most since 2000's school-record 11 shutouts. The Musketeers rank third in the BIG EAST for shutouts on the season.
- Nine shutouts stand as the second most in a single season in program history, matching 1985 and 1991's season totals.
- Xavier finished the season with 31 goals, the most since 2006's 31-goal season.
- Samantha Dewey's nine goals are the most by a Musketeers in over 10 years. Her team-high point total is 25 is a new career-best mark which topped her previous career-high point total of 22. Dewey's 25 points also marks the most for a Musketeer since Lauren Giesting's 25 points in 2003.
- The game marked the final appearance as Musketeers for seniors Kenadie Carlson, Andie Kennard and Emma Westwater.
- Carlson finishes her career with 34 points on 13 goals and eight assists, appearing in 72 games for the Musketeers.
- Kennard appeared in 68 games for the Musketeers during her career, totaling over 4,600 minutes in her career, finishing with 10 points on four goals and two assists, including a goal against GU.
- Westwater, a third-year transfer, appeared in 28 matches, tallying four goals and an assist for the Musketeers in her career.
