Men's Tennis Signs a Pair During Fall Signing Period

CINCINNATI – Xavier men's tennis head coach Doug Matthews announced the addition of a pair of four-star recruits during the Fall 2018 signing period. Aaron Thompson of Evansville, Ind., and Jake Zipoli of Winnetka, Ill., will join the Musketeers' squad in 2019.
"I am excited to welcome Jake and Aaron to the Xavier tennis family," said Matthews "They are both going to be very good players, great teammates, and also do well in the classroom. They are serious tennis players and will improve our culture immediately. During the recruiting process, it was clear that these two love Xavier and they are perfect fits for our program."

Thompson is a four star recruit out of Mater Dei High School, currently ranked No. 3 in the state. He played four years of varsity tennis at Mater Dei, going 104-7 in the No. 1 spot in his four years, a school-record mark.
During his career, Thompson was a two-time state semi-finalist in Indiana, and three-time SIAC Singles Champion. During each year of his high school career, Thompson was named All-State and was part of three team Sectional Championships.
Thompson is the son of Maria Elena and Brian Thompson, and has a younger brother, Cooper.

Zipoli is also rated as a four-star recruit, coming to Xavier from New Trier High School, and is currently ranked No. 7 in the state of Illinois. At New Trier, Zipoli played No. 1 and No. 2 singles during his four-year varsity career, in addition to play No. 1 doubles each season.
During his career, Zipoli earned First Team All-Conference honors in singles, and was name First Team All-State in doubles as a senior, after finishing 2018 in fifth place. Zipoli's New Trier squad made the state championship from 2016-18, winning the title in 2016 and finishing runners-up in 2017 and 2018.
Zipoli is the son of Dianna Zipoli and Greg Zipoli. His mother played tennis at UNC Chapel Hill and his father played baseball at Ithaca College. He has a younger sister, Allison.
