Xavier returns home and scores 28 points off 14 forced turnovers in convincing win over RedHawks

CINCINNATI – Xavier men's basketball defeated Miami (Ohio), 82-55, on Wednesday night in the first game of a three-game home stand at Cintas Center. Three Musketeers scored in double figures, led by sophomore Naji Marshall with 17 points. Junior Tyrique Jones added his second double-double of the season, scoring 13 points and grabbing 13 rebounds in the victory.

FIRST HALF

Xavier began the half shooting 75 percent from behind the three-point line, with two makes by Naji Marshall and one by Paul Scruggs.
A block by Scruggs with 9:40 to play in the half turned into a fast-break opportunity for the Musketeers. Kyle Castlin finished the effort with a three-point play, giving Xavier a six-point lead.
A transition three-point field goal with 8:10 left in the half by Ryan Welage gave the Musketeers a 27-17 lead.
Xavier scored 14 points off of seven RedHawk turnovers in the half.
The Musketeers had three blocks in the half, all of which came from the efforts of Scruggs.
Marshall led the way in scoring for Xavier with 10 points in 16 minutes.
Quentin Goodin added eight points for the Musketeers in the half on 3-of-6 shooting from the field and dished out three assists.
Xavier shot 55 percent from the floor, hitting on 16-of-29 compared to Miami's 12-of-33.
The Musketeers closed the half with a 42-27 lead after trailing Miami by five early. Xavier led by as many as 17 points in the half and scored 20 points in the paint.

SECOND HALF

Xavier began the half with consecutive scoring efforts by Tyrique Jones, giving the Musketeers an 18-point lead.
The Musketeers opened the second half on a 10-1 run, shooting 5-of-7 from the floor.
Xavier scored its first 14 points of the second half in the paint.
Xavier shot 53 percent from the field in the half, hitting 17-of-32 from the field.
Marshall added seven points in the half on 3-of-4 shooting. He also grabbed two rebounds and dished out one assist.
Scruggs scored nine points in the half, shooting 100 percent from the floor in 11 minutes of play.
The Musketeers scored 26 of its 40 second half points in the paint and scored 14 more points off of 7 Miami turnovers.
Xavier finished the game with an 82-55 victory and led by as many as 30 points in the second half.

Xavier now leads the series with Miami 55-47 and has won four straight meetings against the RedHawks.
