Garrett Wood Leads Men's Golf in Spring Opener at Loyola Intercollegiate

GOODYEAR, Ariz. – Xavier men's golf wrapped up a 16th place finish in the Loyola Intercollegiate this afternoon at Palm Valley Gold Club. Freshman Garrett Wood led the Musketeers, tying for 10th after finishing in the high 60's in all three rounds.

Wood finished the third-round carding five birdies in the final round, totaling for 14 of Xavier's 46 birdies. The freshman dropped three spots after being tied for seventh after the second round. Wood shot an impressive 67, 69, 69 (205, -3) over two days, including two 3-under nines. Wood tied with Gonzaga's David Ganz for par 5's with an average of 4.00 (-12)

Senior Daniel Jaramillo and junior Eduardo Rivera tied each other for 63^rd place in the outing. The senior found his stroke in the back nine of the final round, going 1-under with a pair of birdies after a +4 front nine. Jaramillo also produced an impressive eagle, one of two for XU at the tournament, in the second round on a 540-yard, par 5 hole.

Xavier finished the tournament in 16th place, earning a combined scorecard of 283, 287, 293 (863, -1).

College of Charleston won the competition with a three-day score of 270, 276, 270 (816, -48).
