Bluiett Leads Xavier Past Georgetown in Overtime, 96-91

The Musketeers go 10-for-10 from the free-throw line in overtime
CINCINNATI – Trevon Bluiett scored 31 points and went 9-for-16 from the field and 6-for-10 from behind the arc, as No. 6 Xavier outlasted Georgetown in overtime on Saturday evening. This was the second highest scoring game for Bluiett in his career at Xavier.
Xavier moved to 21-3 for the season and moved to 9-2 in BIG EAST play while Georgetown dropped to 13-9 for the season and 3-8 in BIG EAST play.
• The Musketeers head to Butler on Tuesday, February 6 for a 6:30 p.m. tip-off. The game will be broadcasted on FS1.

FIRST HALF |
- The Musketeers jumped out to a 12-9 lead at the first media timeout, with Kerem Kanter scoring seven of Xavier's 12 points and Quentin Goodin providing the five other points.
- Georgetown and Xavier went basket-for-basket for the majority of the nine minutes played, but Georgetown outscored Xavier, 15-10, to claim the lead and make the score 24-22 at the 7:47 mark.
- Four back-to-back three pointers by Kanter, Trevon Bluiett, Goodin, and Bluiett helped spark a 14-11 run for the Musketeers. This led them to regain the lead, 36-35, at the 3:44 mark.
- The Musketeers outscored the Hoyas, 10-9, to end the half and a three-pointer at the buzzer by Bluiett gave the Musketeers a lead of 46-44.
- Trevon Bluiett led Xavier with 16 points, while Kerem Kanter scored 10 points.
- The Musketeers were out-rebounded by the Hoyas, 20-16, but Kaiser Gates was able to grab six rebounds.
- Xavier shot 53.1 percent from the field and 47.1 percent from behind the arc while holding Georgetown to 48.6 percent from the field and 31.3 percent from behind the arc.

SECOND HALF |
- Both teams traded baskets for the first eight and a half minutes, with Georgetown outscoring Xavier 18-17 at the 11:29 mark. Tyrique Jones scored six of Xavier's 17 points to help Xavier maintain a lead of 63-62 at the media timeout.
- The Hoyas outscored the Musketeers, 20-16, to take an 82-79 lead at the two-minute mark. Trevon Bluiett scored seven of those points 16 points.
- For the last two minutes of the game, Xavier outscored Georgetown, 7-4, and with 19 seconds left, Bluiett tied the game by hitting a three-pointer and the free throw that ensued. The Hoyas last shot was off the mark, resulting in the game going into overtime.
- Bluiett and Jones led Xavier in scoring in the second half, with Bluiett scoring 13 points and Jones scoring eight points.

OVERTIME |
- Both teams opened overtime by scoring two free throws each. J.P Macura scored two more free throws to make the scoring margin 4-2. Another Georgetown foul on the other end of the floor sent Tyrique Jones to the line. Jones went 2-for-2 to increase Xavier's lead to 92-88 with 1:32 left in overtime.
- The Hoyas answered with a three-pointer on the other end of the floor to cut the Musketeer's lead to 92-91, which prompted a Xavier timeout with 42 seconds remaining in the game.
- Quentin Goodin drew a foul against Georgetown and made both of his free-throws to increase Xavier's advantage to 94-31 with 30 seconds left. Georgetown missed its next shot, resulting in a Xavier possession with 10 seconds left. Trevon was fouled and went 2-for-2 from the line, ending the game for the Musketeers.
- Xavier outscored Georgetown, 10-5, during overtime and all of the Musketeer's points came at the line. They went 10-for-10 from the line in overtime with Tyrique Jones scoring four points.

NOTABLES |
- Trevon Bluiett led the team with 31 points. It marks the first time a Musketeer scored 30 points or more since January 26, 2017 when Bluiett scored 40 points against the University of Cincinnati.
- Four Musketeers scored in double figures with Bluiett scoring 31 points, Jones scoring 15 points, Kanter scoring 12 points and Goodin scoring 11 points.
- Xavier was out-rebounded by Georgetown, 43-39, but Gates was able to grab 10 rebounds and Jones pulled down six.
- Xavier's largest lead of the game came at the 13:18 mark of the second half when they led by five. There were 21 lead changes and the score was tied 20 times during the entirety of the game.
- Xavier improves to 15-0 at the Cintas Center this year to remain undefeated at home for the season.
