CINCINNATI - The BIG EAST Conference released the complete 2018-19 men's basketball league schedule today. With that part of the schedule complete, Xavier University is excited to release its entire 2018-19 slate, including game times and television coverage.
Defending BIG EAST Conference Regular Season Champion Xavier opens the 2018-19 league slate on Saturday, December 29 at DePaul. It's the first of 90 BIG EAST games scheduled for the new season. XU opens the home portion of the BIG EAST schedule on Wednesday, Jan. 2 vs. Seton Hall at Cintas Center.
The Musketeers open the 2018-19 season with an exhibition game against Kentucky Wesleyan College on Thursday, Nov. 1 at Cintas Center. Opening Night for the regular season is Tuesday, Nov. 6 vs. IUPUI at Cintas Center. XU has 18 games on the home schedule, including the exhibition opener.
All of Xavier's 31 regular season games will be televised with at least 28 national television games, including CBS National vs. Villanova on Sunday, Feb. 24 and FOX National at Marquette on Sunday, Jan. 6 and at Providence on Saturday, Feb. 16. XU has 14 games on FS1, two on FS2, two on FOX Sports Regional Networks and one "wild card" game for the regular season finale on a FOX network that will be announced in February. Xavier has five games slated for the ESPN family of networks, including all three games in the Maui Jim Maui Invitational in November as well as December road games at Cincinnati on Saturday, Dec. 8 and at Missouri on Tuesday, Dec. 18. In addition, the Musketeers will have four games broadcast on CBS Sports Network.
The Musketeers will play at least 14 regular season games this season against teams that made the 2018 NCAA Tournament with a chance at a 15th on the third day of the Maui Invitational. Xavier will play home-and-home series against each of its nine BIG EAST rivals, including 2018 NCAA teams Butler, Creighton, Providence, Seton Hall and NCAA Champion Villanova in addition to 2018 NIT team Marquette. XU plays two road games in December against 2018 NCAA teams, at Cincinnati and at Missouri. Xavier plays an NCAA team, Auburn, in the first round of the Maui Invitational and in the second round, either Duke or San Diego State. The third game could pit XU against Arizona or Gonzaga, who also made last season's NCAA field.
"You better be ready night in and night out for the 18-game BIG EAST schedule. The last four years the 10-team BIG EAST has averaged six teams in the NCAA Tournament field. That speaks for itself. There are no nights off. We have to challenge our guys and get better in the non-conference so we are ready for the challenge of the BIG EAST Conference. The entire Maui Invitational field is incredible, including four teams that are on a lot of preseason top 10 lists. We open up with a top 10 team in Auburn. Every game in Maui will challenge us as will the Gavitt Games matchup with a much-improved Wisconsin team. The two road games that we have at Missouri and at Cincinnati, who both made last year's NCAA Tournament, will prepare us to go play in the many hostile environments in the BIG EAST."
Xavier men's basketball tickets are on sale now. Fans can get tickets today for 18 exciting games at Cintas Center featuring Wisconsin and nine BIG EAST Conference rivals, including Butler and Villanova. Seats start at just $300 and can be purchased now at GoXavier.com.
