Musketeer defense posts fifth-straight shutout

CINCINNATI - Xavier women's soccer closed out its non-conference schedule with a fifth-straight shutout win, topping the Miami RedHawks, 2-0, at home on Sunday evening. Xavier tallied twice in the first half and the Musketeer defense limited the Miami offense to just five shots, with one on-frame. Xavier moved to 6-4-0 as the Musketeers move into BIG EAST play next week.

HOW THEY SCORED

30' | XAVIER | Samantha Dewey scored the game-winner in a second-straight game midway through the second half. Rachel Dewey crossed towards her sister from the far left side, the ball bounced off the Miami defender to Samantha Dewey in the top left corner of the box where she shot to the upper right corner of the goal

45' | XAVIER | In the closing seconds of the first half, the Musketeers set up on a free kick just outside of the penalty box. Grace Bahr took the kick, shooting from straight on above the goalkeeper's head for the 2-0 lead going into halftime.

NOTABLE

Samantha Dewey's tally was her fourth of the season, bringing her team-high point total to 10. This is Dewey's third game-winner of the season and second in the past two games.
Grace Bahr's tally is her second of the season, bringing her point total to four to match Sydney Schembri for second most on the team.
Xavier led 28-5 on shots and 13-1 on shots on goal.
Eleven Musketeers attempted shots, led by six for Samantha Dewey and five for Kenadie Carlson, both with three looks on frame. Grace Bahr and Sydney Schembri each had a pair of looks on-goal as well.
Xavier led the RedHawks 8-1 on corner kicks.
Toni Bizzarro posted a fourth-straight shut-out win, collecting a save with no goals against.
Hayley Jakovich, Allison Klimkowski and Grace Bahr played the full 90 on the Xavier backline.
This was the fifth-straight shut-out for the Musketeers, clocking over 460 minutes straight without allowing a tally. It's the longest such streak since 2013.
Xavier's five-game win streak is the longest since 2003, when the Musketeers won six-straight.
Xavier moved to 4-6-2 all time against the RedHawks with the win.
Xavier went 4-0 against the MAC this season, with wins over Toledo, Bowling Green and Akron as well.
Xavier remained undefeated at home, moving to 4-0 on the season at the XU Soccer Complex.
