• The Xavier women's cross country team was ranked 11th in the USTFCCCA Great Lakes Regional poll on Monday. The Musketeers were ranked 14th in the preseason poll.
• Lehigh University will host the 45th annual Paul Short Run, presented by ASICS on September 29 at the Goodman Campus Cross Country Course. The Paul Short Run is the largest intercollegiate cross country meet in the nation with approximately 6,000 athletes from nearly 450 colleges and high schools slated to compete this year. The day-long event includes 14 races (six college, six high school and two open races) beginning at 9:30 a.m. with the men's open race and concludes with the girls' high school JV race at 5:45 p.m.
• Xavier will be competing against 22 USTFCCCA regionally ranked teams, including two nationally ranked teams in Utah State and Georgia.
• Xavier most recently competed at the Commodore Classic hosted by Vanderbilt on Sept. 15. The Musketeers placed fifth out of 18 teams.
• Anna Kostarellis (7th) and Jenna Clayworth (8th) both posted top-10 times to pace the Musketeers. Kostarellis' time of 17:41.90 in the 5K race ranks fifth in program history.
• Xavier last competed at the Paul Short Run in 2015. The women placed 11th (out of 35 teams) with Sarah Mazzei leading the squad with a 30th place finish (out of 312 runners).
"I'm happy to be going back to the Paul Short Invitational for the first time since 2015. This was a race I ran in college and it's one of my favorite courses. Our women's team is ready for a breakthrough performance but it will require them to navigate a few key challenges. They'll need to get out hard but not over commit during the first mile, properly navigate a very crowded field of competitors and mentally adjust to an extra 1K since this will be their first 6K race."
"As a team, our goal will be to compete well against some of the top ranked teams from the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast regions. That should put us in the top-10 minus the Canadian teams. Individually, this will be a great opportunity for our top two girls to see how they match up against several of the nation's best over 6K."
• Xavier returns to action at the Bradley Pink Classic on Friday, Oct. 12 in Peoria, Ill.
