Wildcats scored a pair in second half of the 2-1 Xavier setback

CINCINNATI - A pair of second-half goals for Villanova erased Xavier women's soccer halftime lead, giving the Musketeers (7-6-0; 1-2-0 BIG EAST) their first home setback of the season on Sunday afternoon. Sabrina Kunimoto's tally in the first half gave the Musketeers the lead at the break, but midway through the second half, Villanova scored twice in quick succession to secure the 2-1 win for the Wildcats.

HOW THEY SCORED

17' | XAVIER | Midway through the first half, Samantha Dewey pressured the VU goalkeeper as she tried to clear the ball, passing the miscue to Sabrina Kunimoto on the right side of the net. Kunimoto tapped it in to put the Musketeers up, 1-0.

62' | VILLANOVA | A VU shot to the right side the net was saved by Toni Bizzarro, who punched it out the left side of the net. Villanova's Claire Fell used a header to put the ball in for the equalizer, 1-1.

67' | VILLANOVA | The game-winner came shortly after the equalizer, when VU's Kristin Barbour broke up a breakaway for Sydney Schembri, passing to VU's Jasmine Ruiz, who shot from 10 yards outside the penalty box, sneaking the ball inside the right post to put the Wildcats up, 2-1.

NOTABLE

Kunimoto's tally was her first of the season, making her the 12th Musketeer to score this season.
Kunimoto's goal was the 20th of the season for Xavier, surpassing last season's total of 19 with six games still remaining in the regular season.
Samantha Dewey's assist on Kunimoto's goal was her fourth of the season, a team high, bringing her point total to 14 for the season, also a team-high.
Xavier held a 13-10 advantage on shots. Each team attempted five on-frame.
Xavier also led 7-6 on corner kicks.
Toni Bizzarro played the full time in-frame, collecting three saves with two goals against.
Hayley Jakovich played the full time on the Xavier back line. Grace Bahr added 87 minutes in the backfield and Rachel Dewey played 85 minutes in the midfield for the Musketeers.
Xavier moves to 3-3 all-time with the Wildcats. Today's match ended a three-game winning streak over VU.
The loss was the first at home for the Musketeers this season, moving Xavier to 4-1 on the season at the XU Soccer Complex.
