Gray Posts Double-Double, Xavier Falls on Friday Night Against Butler

The sophomore forward had 15 points and 21 rebounds
CINCINNATIÂ - Sophomore forward A'riana Gray posted her eighth double-double of the season on Friday night, scoring 15 points to go along with 21 rebounds as the Musketeers dropped a 63-41 matchup against BIG EAST leader Butler. The Musketeers moved to 10-6 (1-4 BIG EAST), while the Bulldogs improved to 15-1 (5-0 BIG EAST).

• Xavier never trailed in the opening quarter and led by four points (11-7) with 1:14 on the clock. The Bulldogs scored three unanswered points to end the frame, making the score 11-10. A'riana Gray had five points and six rebounds in the first quarter.
• The second quarter had two ties with the final tie, 17-17, coming at the 2:08 mark. Butler closed the half on a 7-0 run (3-for-3 shooting), taking a 24-17 advantage into the locker room.
• A'riana Gray led the Musketeers with seven point on 3-for-4 shooting at the break. She added a team-high 12 rebounds. Aaliyah Dunham chipped in five points and Deja Ross pulled down five rebounds.
• Xavier held a 21-20 advantage on the glass at intermission and a 6-5 advantage in points off of turnovers.

• Xavier hit three straight 3-pointers to open the half, closing within three points (29-26) at the 8:06 mark. Butler responded by hitting 76.9 percent (10-for-13) of its shot attempts in the third quarter to build a 50-33 lead.
• Butler never relinquished the lead and outscored Xavier, 13-8, in the final quarter to win the game, 63-41. The 41 points were a season low for the Musketeers.

• Sophomore A'riana Gray was 6-for-9 from the floor, scoring a team-high 15 points. She pulled down 21 rebounds, her second consecutive game with 20 or more rebounds. The 21 rebounds rank third in single-game school history. Gray is now averaging 11.2 rebounds per game to lead the BIG EAST.
• Sophomore Princess Stewart added seven points, three assists and a team-high three steals. The guard added two rebounds.
• Freshman Lauren Wasylson chipped in six points, two steals and one assist. Sophomore Deja Ross added five rebounds, three blocks, two assists and one steal.
• Butler won the battle on the glass, 40-38, and scored nine more points (18-9) off of turnovers. The game had four ties and three lead changes.

• The Musketeers hit the road for back-to-back BIG EAST games at Creighton (Jan. 18) and Providence (Jan. 20) next weekend.
