
Men's Basketball Hosts No. 12/11 Marquette On Saturday

Musketeers are looking to even BIG EAST record at 4-4.
CINCINNATI --- The Xavier University Musketeers, 11-9 overall and 3-4 in the BIG EAST Conference, welcome the No. 12/11 Marquette University Golden Eagles, 17-3 overall and 6-1 in the BIG EAST Conference, on Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m.
Xavier suffered its second straight loss on Wednesday with a 64-62 setback against Providence. XU rallied from a 10-point deficit with under four minutes left but came up empty on three straight potential game-tying or game-winning possessions to end the game.
Marquette won its sixth straight game with a 79-69 win over DePaul on Wednesday. The Golden Eagles defeated Louisville, Kansas State, Wisconsin and Buffalo in the non-conference season. Marquette's Markus Howard leads the BIG EAST in scoring at 24.3 ppg.
Xavier head coach Travis Steele and his staff will participate in Suits And Sneakers Week (Jan. 21-27) for the Marquette game by wearing Nike sneakers with their suits. It is part of the awareness campaign for the Coaches vs. Cancer effort. The National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) teamed with the American Cancer Society over 25 years ago to form Coaches vs. Cancer.
Marquette leads the series 50-24, including a 70-52 win in Milwaukee earlier this month (1-6-19). Xavier, which swept the two meetings last season, is 9-4 vs. Marquette since the two teams became BIG EAST Conference rivals in the 2013-14 season. The Musketeers are 5-1 vs. Marquette at Cintas Center.
