Gray, Owens Lead Musketeers Over Seton Hall in Overtime

A'riana Gray led Xavier with 19 points and 22 rebounds on Sunday Afternoon
CINCINNATI - A'riana Gray and Na'Teshia Owens combined for 37 points and 28 rebounds on Sunday afternoon, leading the Xavier women's basketball team to a 63-62 overtime victory against Seton Hall at Cintas Center. Xavier improved to 10-5 (1-3 BIG EAST), while the Pirates dropped to 9-5 (1-2 BIG EAST).
With one second left in overtime, Owens drove to the rim and hit the game-winning shot for the Musketeers. The junior guard scored both of Xavier's baskets in overtime.
• Xavier led 17-9 after one quarter of play behind eight points and six rebound from A'riana Gray. The Musketeers also scored 12 points off of turnovers in the opening frame.
• The Musketeers used an 8-4 run capped by a Princess Stewart three pointer to open the second quarter, taking their largest lead of the game (25-13) at the 7:18 mark. Seton Hall battled back to get within five to close the half, making the score 31-25 at intermission.
• A'riana Gray posted eight points and 11 rebounds at the break, while Na'Teshia Owens scored 11 points. Seton Hall held a 25-24 advantage on the glass.
• The Musketeers led by 10 twice in the third quarter before the Pirates closed the frame on a 7-1 run to make the score 46-42.
• The Pirates posted a .538 field-goal percentage in the fourth quarter to outscore the Musketeers, 16-12, and tie the game at 58 with just over a minute left in regulation. Xavier was held without a point for the final 3:51 of the half.
• Seton Hall made a pair of free throws with four seconds on the clock to take its first lead of the game, 62-61. Xavier called timeout and advanced the ball, setting up the Na'Teshia Owens game-winning basket.
• Sophomore A'riana Gray posted her seventh double-double of the season, scoring 19 points to go along with 22 rebounds. The forward was 7-for-10 from the floor and added two assists, two steals and one block.
• A'riana Gray's 22 rebounds are the most by a BIG EAST player this season, while ranking tied for third in the NCAA. The 22 rebounds also rank second in school history. She is the first player to post 20 or more rebounds in a game since Ta'Shia Phillips (21 rebounds) on March 21, 2010 against East Tennessee State (NCAA Tournament).
• Junior Na'Teshia Owens scored 18 points to go along with six rebounds. Sophomore Princess Stewart added 13 points, three assists, three steals and two rebounds.
• Sophomore Deja Ross pulled down a career-high 11 rebounds to go along with two assists and one steal.
• Seton Hall won the battle on the glass, 53-47. Selena Philoxy pulled down 21 rebounds for the Pirates, while scoring eight points. Xavier held a 20-11 advantage in points off of turnovers and a 30-26 advantage in points in the paint.
• Xavier moved to 2-10 in the all-time series with the Pirates, snapping a four-game losing streak. Five of the last six meetings have now been decided by 10 or fewer points.
• The Musketeers close their three-game homestand on Friday, Jan. 11 against Butler. Tip-off is slated for 7 p.m. from Cintas Center.
