Junior Aaliyah Dunham led Xavier with 10 points, three rebounds and three assists

MUNCIE, Ind. - Xavier women's basketball ended its three-game road swing with a 70-49 loss at Ball State on Wednesday afternoon. The Musketeers moved to 1-3 on the year, while Ball State improved to 2-2.

FIRST HALF

• Ashley Gomez hit a three pointer to open the game and give Xavier an early lead. Ball State responded by hitting 50 percent (6-for-12) of its shots in the first quarter, taking an 18-6 advantage after 10 minutes of play. Gomez and Aaliyah Dunham both had three points in the opener quarter.

• Xavier's cold shooting continued ito the second quarter as the Musketeers finished the first half only 2-for-30 from the floor. The Musketeers forced 11 turnovers in the first half, turning the miscues into five points.

• Aaliyah Dunham paced the Musketeers with five points, while Na'Teshia Owens added four. Deja Ross led the team on the glass with five rebounds.

SECOND HALF

• Xavier opened the second half on an 8-3 run (4-for-8 shooting) capped by a Carrie Gross jumper at the 6:40 mark. The Musketeers hit 53.3 percent (8-for-15) of their shot attempts in third quarter - outscoring the Cardinals 22-19 - to make the score 56-37 with 10 minutes left in regulation.

• Ball State opened the final stanza on a 12-2 run to build a 68-39 advantage at the 4:51 mark. The Musketeers outscored the Cardinals, 10-2, to close the game.

NOTABLES

• Junior Aaliyah Dunham led the Musketeers in scoring with 10 points. The guard added a team-high three assists and three steals.

• Ashley Gomez and Lauren Wasylson both added seven points. Carrie Gross chipped in six points and three steals.

• Deja Ross led the team on the glass with nine rebounds. Sarah Leyendecker added six rebounds and a block in 18 minutes off the bench.

• Xavier had 10 steals for the second consecutive game. The Musketeers forced 20 turnovers, covering the miscues into 14 points.
