Musketeers Set Season-High in Three Pointers vs Wright State

Freshman Morgan Sharps scored a team-high 15 points with five three pointers
CINCINNATI - Xavier women's basketball hit a season-high 12 three pointers in Saturday's 86-74 loss to Wright State at Cintas Center. The Musketeers dropped to 1-4 on the year, while the Raiders improved to 2-1.
• Wright State led by as many as 10 points (17-7) in the opening quarter at the 2:25 mark. Xavier responded by scoring six unanswered points capped by a Morgan Sharps three pointer to get within four (17-13). The Raiders made a basket in the closing seconds to make the score 19-13 after one stanza.
• Xavier closed within one point (32-31) in the second quarter on a Carrie Gross layup with 1:07 left on the clock. Wright State hit a basket in the closing seconds to make the score 34-31 at intermission. The Musketeers outscored Wright State, 18-15, in the second quarter.
• Morgan Sharps led Xavier with nine points in the first half, while Carrie Gross and Sarah Leyendecker both chipped in six. Four different players had three rebounds int he first half.
• Wright State opened the second half on a 9-0 run before Morgan Sharps fourth, 3-pointer of the game ended the run at the 6:40 mark. The Raiders outscored Xavier, 32-13, in the third quarter to take a 66-44 lead into the final stanza.
• Xavier scored six straight to open the fourth quarter. The Musketeers hit seven of their first eight shots to close within 15 points (75-60) with just under five minutes left in regulation. Xavier got within 11 points (85-74) with 53 seconds left on the clock on a Carrie Gross basketball before the Raiders held on for the win.
• The Musketeers outscored Wright State, 30-20, in the fourth quarter by hitting 70.6 percent (12-for-17) of their shot attempts.
• Lauren Wasylson scored 12 of her 14 points in the second half. Carrie Gross was 4-for-4 from the floor in the second half with nine points.
• Xavier hit a season-high 12 three pointers with four Musketeers connecting on at least one three pointer. The Musketeers also scored a season-high 74 points and dished out a season-high 16 assists.
• Sophomore Carrie Gross scored a career-high 15 points on 7-for-8 shooting. The guard added four steals, three rebounds and three assists.
• Freshman Morgan Sharps scored a season-high 15 points on 5-for-12 shooting. The guard scored five 3-pointers, while adding three assists, one rebound and one steal.
• Sophomore Lauren Wasylson scored a season-high 14 points on 5-for-9 shooting. The guard scored four 3-pointers, while adding two rebounds in 14 minutes of action off the bench.
• Junior Aaliyah Dunham scored eight points to go along with a team-high five steals and a team-high six assists. Sophomore Sarah Leyendecker added nine points, five rebounds and two blocks in her first start in a Xavier uniform.
• Xavier had 10 steals for the third consecutive game. The Musketeers forced 20 Wright State turnovers, converting the miscues into 23 points. The Musketeers also held a 24-6 advantage in fastbreak points.
• Wright State won the battle on the glass, 47-44. Sophomore Ayanna Townsend led the Musketeers with seven rebounds in 25 minutes of action off the bench.
• Xavier returns to action on Sunday, Dec. 1 at Robert Morris. Tip-off is slated for 12 p.m.
