Musketeers Rally Behind Marshall's 23-point Effort to Top Creighton in Overtime

Naji Marshall's career night from the three-point arc helped XU snap their six-game skid
CINCINNATI - The Xavier Musketeers snapped a six-game losing streak with a 64-61 overtime win against Creighton on Wednesday evening. Naji Marshall led the attack for the Musketeers with 23 points, seven rebounds, and five assists. He also set a career high in three-pointers made, hitting 5-of-11 from behind the arc. With the win, XU moves to 12-13 overall and 4-8 in the BIG EAST.
Tyrique Jones added 12 points, six rebounds, two steals and one block. Zach Hankins contributed another 10 points, six rebounds, and three blocks. The Musketeers had 18 assists on 26 made field goals of the night.

FIRST HALF |
- A quick 6-0 over 1:32 gave XU a 13-10 lead with 14:45 remaining in the first half.
- XU was unable to take advantage of a scoring drought by Creighton lasted almost four minutes, only leading by 3, 26-23, into the third media timeout at 7:46 left.
- XU took an eight-point which lead into a Creighton timeout at 6:37, after a three pointer by Ryan Welage and a dunk by Zach Hankins.
- Creighton's scoring drought of 2:55 allowed the Musketeers to hold their lead, 36-30, going into halftime.
- Tyrique Jones led the Musketeers in points with 10 on 5/6 field goals with two rebounds.
- Paul Scruggs led XU in rebounds with six and assists with four while adding two points.

- Creighton used a 7-0 run over 1:29 to tie the game at 37 wih 15:09 remaining.
- A 6-0 Creighton run allowed the Bluejays to take the lead 48-44 going into the under-eight media timeout.
- Xavier trailed by as many as five in the second half, going into the final two minutes of the game down, 56-51.
- A Naji Marshall three cut the deficit to two, but CU responded with another outside shot. Marshall hit another three in the final minute and a basket by Quentin Goodin tied the game at 59 in the final 20 seconds.
- Creighton missed a three-point attempt with 1.7 seconds remaining to send the game to overtime, tied at 59.
- Naji Marshall scored 11 of XU's 23 points in the second half, hitting three of his five three pointers in the second half.

OVERTIME |
- Creighton hit the first basket to take the lead in overtime, 61-59.
- Quentin Goodin's free throw pulled Xavier within one, and a Naji Marshall basket put Xavier ahead for good.
- Marshall hit another jumper in the final 30 seconds to put the Musketeers ahead three, 64-61. A pair of Creighton attempts missed to secure the Xavier win.
- Xavier held CU scoreless for the final four minutes of overtime.
