Musketeer women tied for first after two racing events; men in fourth after two races and diving competition

EAST MEADOW, N.Y. - After opening night at 2019 BIG EAST Swimming and Diving Championships, Xavier swimming has two gold medals and three new school records after four races. Xavier's women stand in a tie for first with Villanova, while the Xavier men stand in fourth, following two racing events and a diving competition in which Xavier did not compete.

WOMEN'S DAY ONE NOTABLE

In the 800 free relay, Katie Kerr, Abigail Garner, Emily Saugstad and Caroline Gaertner opened up the meet with a second-place finish in the 800 free relay, setting a new school record of 7:10.63.
In the 200 medley relay, Ali Fort, Lydia Schaeffer, Caroline Gaertner and Emily Conners won the program's first BIG EAST relay championship, setting a new school record of 1:40.26 on the way to the win.

MEN'S NOTABLE

Xavier's men opened the competition with a school-record time of 6:35.34 in the 800 free relay for Jared Ritz, Brandon Abboud, Ben Quon and Sam Johanns, taking second.
Sam Johanns, Matthew Dyer, David Bunnell and Christian Thomas posted a time 1:28.88 in the 200 medley relay to take the BIG EAST Championship, setting a time just .02 off the school record.
