Matt Dyer wins 100 breast; Men win 400 medley with school record time

EAST MEADOW, N.Y. - Xavier swimming used nine top three finishes, including a pair of event titles, to move up to second place on both the men's and women's side on the third day of the BIG EAST Championships. Matthew Dyer claimed the 100 breast title and the men closed out the day with another relay win as the Xavier moves into the final day of competition on Saturday.

WOMEN'S NOTABLE

Taylor Hogan led the Musketeers in the 400 IM with a time of 4:25.75 to finish fifth. Alison Herman finished sixth and Emma Kauffeld finished eighth in the Championship final.
Maggie Kauffeld and Tilly Baldwin competed in the B-Final of the 400 IM, finishing 10th and 11th respectively.
Caroline Gaertner led three Musketeers in the top seven of the 100 fly, finishing second with a time of 54.51. Taylor Hogan finished third, Annie Cummins finished seventh.
Anne Locker and Laura Dicus competed in the B-Final of the 100 fly, placing 10th and 15th.
Emily Conners led the Musketeers in the Championship final of the 200 free, finishing fifth with a time of 1:50.68. Emily Saugstad, who set the top time for a Musketeer in the event on the day in prelims at 1:50.60, touched just behind Conners in sixth.
Katie Kerr and Abigail Garner competed in the B-Final of the 200 back, finishing 10th and 12th.
Lydia Schaeffer led the Musketeers in the 100 breast, placing fourth with a time of 1:04.46. Becca Titterton competed in the Championship final, finishing seventh.
Caroline Gaertner led three Musketeers in the Championship final of the 100 back, placing third with a time of 55.30. Ali Fort touched just behind her in fourth and Laura Dicus placed seventh.
Three Musketeers competed in the B-Final of the 100 back, with Maureen Cummins placing 10th, Anne Locker touching 12 and Annie Cummins touching in 13th.
Xavier's women closed out the meet with a second-place finish in the 400 medley relay with Ali Fort, Lydia Schaeffer, Caroline Gaertner and Emily Conners setting a time of 3:45.34.
Xavier's women moved up to second place, trailing Villanova but leading Georgetown.

MEN'S NOTABLE

Cameron Weese set a time of 3:59.19 in the prelims of the 400 IM to earn a spot in the Championship final where he finished sixth.
Chase Baldwin and Cothalee Watko competed in the B-Final, finishing 13th and 15th respectively.
David Bunnell led a trio of Musketeers in the top five of the 100 fly with a third place finish in 49.02. Brandon Abboud, who set the top time on the day in the prelims, finished fourth and Landon Clark finished fifth.
Roark Lundal competed in the B-Final of the 100 fly, finishing 14th.
Ben Quon led the Musketeers in the Championship final of the 200 free, finishing fourth with a time of 1:39.55. Jared Ritz finished fifth in the Championship final after setting the fastest time on the day in prelims. Enrique Hernandez finished seventh in the Championship final.
Matthew Geraghty competed in the B-Final of the 200 free, finishing 13th.
Matthew Dyer took the BIG EAST Championship in the 100 breast, the second of his career, topping his own school record with a time of 54.29.
Cameron Weese also competed in the Championship final of the 100 breast, finishing eighth.
Roark Lundal used a time of 56.71 to win the B-Final of the 100 breast.
The Musketeers placed five in the Championship final of the 100 back. Sam Johanns led the Musketeers with a second-place finish with a time of 48.34.
Nathan Runyon set a new school record time during prelims of the 100 back, then followed Johanns in during the finals in third place.
Alex Sironen finished fifth, Landon Clark placed sixth and Christian Thomas finished eighth in the Championship final.
David Bunnell competed in the B-Final of the 100 back, finishing 11th.
Xavier's men took the top spot in the 400 medley relay to close out the night with Nathan Ruynon, Matthew Dyer, Brandon Abboud and Sam Johanns setting a new school record at 3:14.84.
Xavier's men moved up to second place, trailing leader Georgetown by less than 22 points despite not competing in diving on Friday.
