Xavier Swimming Earns 23 Nominations to the All-BIG EAST Team

NEW YORK - After closing out the 2019 BIG EAST Swimming and Diving Championships with a fourth title for the men's team and the best finish in program history for the women, 23Â Musketeers earned All-BIG EAST honors, the conference office announced on Thursday. All-BIG EAST honors are awarded to the top three finishers in each event during the conference championship meet.
Xavier's women finished as runners-up to Villanova, marking highest finish in the conference meet for the women since joining the conference, and matching the program's best finish, a second-place finish in the Atlantic 10 Championships in 2008. Xavier came away with the BIG EAST Championship in the 200 medley relay, which marks the first relay championship in program history for the women, and the first time in the new configuration of the BIG EAST that Villanova did not win a relay at the championship meet.
Xavier's men took the top spot, despite not competing in diving, to earn the program's fourth BIG EAST Championship in the six years since joining the conference. The Musketeer men collected six BIG EAST event championships over the course of the four-day meet, including four of the five relays, to finish with 779.5 points, topping second place Georgetown by 35 points.

On the women's side, 11 Musketeers earned All-Conference honors, including seven who earned All-BIG EAST in multiple events.
Senior Caroline Gaertner led the way with nominations in seven events, including three individual events, 100 back, 200 back and 100 fly. Gaertner also took part in four top-three relays, including Xavier's win in the 200 medley relay.

Junior Emily Conners earned All-Conference in six events for a second-straight year, including the 50 and 100 free, and four relays.

Taylor Hogan earned All-BIG EAST in a pair of individual events, the 100 fly and 200 fly. Ali Fort, Emily Saugstad, Lydia Schaeffer and Tianna Vozar each took part in a pair of relays to earn All-Conference.

Maureen Cummins, Laura Dicus, Abigail Garner and Katie Kerr each helped the Musketeers finish in the top two of all five relays.
