Naji Marshall Named Second Team All-BIG EAST Conference

CINCINNATI --- Xavier University sophomore forward Naji Marshall has been named Second Team All-BIG EAST Conference by the league coaches. Marshall is the third Musketeer to earn first or second team All-BIG EAST honors as a freshman or sophomore, joining Semaj Christon and Trevon Bluiett, who earned first team honors as sophomores in 2014 and 2016 respectively.

Marshall leads Xavier in scoring at 14.9 ppg., which ranks 12th in the BIG EAST. Marshall ranks second on the team in rebounding at 6.7 rpg., which is ninth in the BIG EAST, and assists at 3.3 apg., which is 10th in the BIG EAST.

Marshall has averaged 20.9 ppg., 6.4 rpg. and 3.4 apg. over his last seven games, although he missed the St. John's game on Saturday with an ankle injury. He has scored in double figures in a team-high 22 games this season, including each of his last seven games. Marshall, who scored a career-high 31 points in a win at St. John's on Feb. 28 and a then-career high 28 points in a win at Seton Hall on Feb. 20, is averaging a team-high 16.6 ppg. in BIG EAST play (up from 12.5 ppg. in non-conference play) and is ranked 10th in the league in scoring for BIG EAST games only.

Marshall, a 2017-18 BIG EAST All-Freshman Team member, was selected 2018-19 preseason All-BIG EAST Honorable Mention.

Xavier earned the No. 4 seed in the upcoming BIG EAST Conference Tournament at Madison Square Garden. Xavier will take on the No. 5 seed Creighton in a quarterfinal matchup on Thursday at 2:30 p.m. Xavier finished the regular season at 17-14 overall and 9-9 in the BIG EAST Conference, including wins in six of its last seven games.
